M8 I can sell you a MUCH better system for less, infact calculating that same sytem you posted (with a 40GB ATA100 drive) and a Geforce 4 video card it would work out at 756 quid, so for 918 quid you would get a lot better.

Ill post you a serious system in a bit when I get into work with a better price.

Hold your horses.

Just looked a bit closer at the tech specs and unfortunately that 301 has got a lousy graphix card and should be avoided!

The next model up comes with a 1.8Ghx Pentium 4 processor a top of the range gfx card (GeForce 4) a very decent CD reader/writer and all of sony's new toys for cross-connectivity like the memory stick and the i-link.

If you got it from DABs with a 17" monitor it will set you back £1086 inc. VAT but that's a lot of PC for the money.

Have a look at the spec. doc here:

http://www.splattdesigns.co.uk/rx300.pdf

and take a look at the sony site here:

http://www.vaio.sony-europe.com/eng/products/desktop/rx_frames_top.html at the PCV-RX302

I'm very biased towards the sony machines 'cos my first decent machine was a vaio notebook and I love it dearly. I'm not saying that it's gospel that it's the best machine you can get for the money but if I had a grand or so to spend on one that's what I'd get.

(By the way if you want to cream your keks take a look at the RX306 with built-in DVD writer!!! yummy!)

I totally agree with Skippy's previous post...

It's lovely to own one of the "Sony" or "Dell" machines, but IMHO (don't flame me guys) I've always built my own systems around components that I want, and they always beat a similar "branded" PC hands down when it comes to performance, and you save yourself a hefty amount of cash in the process.

If you can't be bothered with the hassle of building your own (which can cause a few headaches to the inexperienced!) get yourself down to your local newsagent, pick up a copy of Micromart (£1.40) and check some of the prices in there.

Look out for Eclipse Computers...

I've picked out a couple of their systems (which include VAT and assembly / testing) so you can compare the price given to you... (which is a rip off mate!).

System 1 :

ECOSys Series (Entry Level)

Processor : AMD Athlon XP 1700
Memory : 128MB
Hard Drive : 20MB
CD ROM : 54X
Monitor : 15"

Case, Graphics Card, Soundcard, Keyboard, Floppy Drive, Modem, Mouse etc..

£351.00

System 2 :

MAX Series (Mid Range)

Processor : AMD Athlon XP 2000
Memory : 256MB
Hard Drive : 40MB
CDRW : 12X8X32
DVD ROM : 8X32
Monitor : 17"

Case, Soundcard, Keyboard, Modem, Floppy Drive etc...

£515.00

System 3 :

Ultimate Series (Semi Decent!)

Processor : AMD Athlon XP2100
Memory : 256MB DDR @ 266mhz
Hard Drive : 60GB
Motherboard : Gigabyte 7VRX
Graphic Card : 64MB DDR ATI Radeon
Monitor : 17"
CDRW : 32x10x40
DVD ROM : 16X48
Speakers : Creative Labs FPS1600
Soundcard : Creative Labs Soundblaster Live 5.1

Case, Keyboard, Mouse, Modem, Floppy etc...

£668.00

All components can be upgraded, PM me if you want any advice on components / systems etc....

Best of luck!

Oooh, just noticed Eclipse's Platinum Range (nice!)

Processor : AMD Athlon XP 1900
Memory : 256MB DDR @ 333mhz
Hard Drive : 80GB (ATA 133, 7200rpm, 2mb Cache)
CDRW : 40x12x10
Monitor : 19"
Graphic Card : 64MB GeForce4 MX460
Soundcard : Creative Labs Audigy 1394
Speakers : Creative Labs i5300
DVD ROM : 16x48

Hi-end Case, Deluxe Mouse/Keyboard, Firewire Port, USB2, Modem...

£903.58

Leaving you with enough change for a trip to Game to pick up a copy of Warcraft III to aid those sleepless nights!.
