Have just restarted my lappy and for some reason a lot of the fonts are now in bold ie:- url bar in internet explorer etc. But the thing that is really annoying me is all my messages in my inbox of outlook express are now bold. Whereas before only the unread ones would be bold. Please does anyone know how to put this back its really annoying me as I can't tell what is new and what is not.

this is a joke

i have now started up outlook express and all my emails have gone. Over 6000 emails The dbx files are there but outlook won't import them. Every time I restart outlook it recreates a new local settings folder along the lines of

C:\Documents and Settings\Nathan\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{3C6E3404-DBC6-4EEE-9B3D-A2C2CB88EC06}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx

Please can someone help I am desperate and will probably lose sleep over this

Do a search looking for *.dbx ( advance search to look in hidden files and folders )

By the sounds of it you will have 2 inbox files one will be the one its using and should be really small if there are no emails there, the other will be large.

Right click on them and properties to find out which one is the large one and contains all your emails.

Copy that in box and navigate to the smaller inbox using windows explorer and then past the large inbox over the smaller inbox, make sure you do this the right way round !!!

You should then start up outlook and your emails should appear.

for the bold start / control pannel / Display / appearance

have a check about in these settings to make sure everythings set to normal.

Failing all ove the above do try the following

start / programs / accessories / system tools / system restore

Click restore to an earlier time, locate a restore point (usually bold but then your pretty fucked for this bit :p ) before when you had the problem if there all bold select a date and on the right it will tell you if its a restore point. then click ok till it runs through the restore.

but i have tried everything you have suggested. What ever is on my machine deletes all emails as they come in. i have even seen it delete the 'welcome to outlook express email whenever I start outlook express. I have spoken to everyone I know about this and nobody knows what I should do.
Cam with regard to the inbox trick windows just creates it's own new inbox called inbox (1).dbx and outbox (1).dbx and ignores all my own dbx files

Start / Contorl Panel / Add Remove Programs / (Add/Remove Windows Components) ( on the left of the box not in the populated list of all programs that appear)

Untick Outlook Express an uninstall it ( cant quite remember the exact proceedure of this but its all instructed, ive not done it for a year or so.

Then reinstall it from you XP CD using the same method as above but just putting the tick back for OE

Try that.

And get rid of mcaffee if that caused the problem :p
