Can anyone give me any hints and tips about getting home insurance?

After having a horrible dream the other night about my house burning down and the ceiling falling on my decks and records :eek: :| :crazy: I thought it was about time I sorted out some insurance !!!!

So can anyone reccommend one and do I need to insure my decks and that separately?

hey hun.

I went with direct line. Think it works out at about £16 a month and thats all contents insured. I insured my vinyl seperatley and they simply asked for a approx value of it and some piccies. Not sure about building insurance cause we're just renting but for contents only that works for me. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

What does £16 a month cover aswell? Fire, theft, accidents?????

Jus over price what you may think it's worth, not too much like. Sure shooms or grad will have an idea of what you got and be able to come up with a figure.

I'm pretty sure your decks will come under your normal insurance so you won't have to pay extra for them. You will have to inform them though. I just got digi cam from work and mailed them piccies of everything expensive as proof we originally owned it.

The contents insurance we've got covers everything. Accidental damage, fire, theft, natural disasters.
You might find it cheaper elsewhere but we got car insurance with them so was easier to keep everything clumped together. + direct line have been really good with dealing with claims i've made regarding driving. Seem to have v.good customer care.

You will have to insure the records seperatly babes cause it's classed as a collection and if god forbid out happened to em they wouldnt pay out :( . I would phone around some companys and get some quotes babes :thumbsup: we are with Norwich union.

The post office are pretty good, i only pay about 9 quid a month by dd and that covers 22,000 contents as long as one single item isnt over 2.5k cos you have to declare that and do it as a seperate....same will go for records

You have to be careful because some places will glady insure your vinyl but they will only pay out the cost of ea replacement CD single (1.99 to 3.99) and some will even quiz you for receipts before paying out. Make sure you question them on the claims process and what type of renumeration is available.

There are some specialist places that will insure your collection but I never found one.
