Went to see that Amitiville remake the other night at the pictures, and although I thought 'ah its only a rated 15' I found it a tad more disturbing than many 18 rated films Ive seen in the last year or two. Theres not much gore per say, but rather an intense story and phsycological stuff going on and even though the tried and tested cliche's are there (wide mirror shot in the bathroom, doors shutting themselves hard etc) I rather enjoyed it.

Many of the horror ones never (majorly) freaked me out with actual goryness, its the concept of the plot (truelly child trauma inducing stuff) that plays on your nightmares as a child that get me. Such as when I was younger, Nightmare on Elm Street and Childs Play etc, where the concept of being killed in your dreams like that, or inanimate objects like dolls are murdering people - its the sick and twisted mind of the writers I appreciate! LOL.

I agree that Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) is one bad mother trucker, as its so errm realistic and shot in a certain way which is also cleverly dependant on the imagination too.

Zombie films never really freak me out, I find them a bit daft.

Saying all that though, the family off The Goonies scared me as a kid and the beast in the cellar cells.

Ive got quite a headmash b movie film called cube. The acting isnt brilliant but it has an orginal idea and is definetely watchable.

Anyway a group of people wake up in a large cube with no apparaent way out.
Each cube is joined on to another like one giant rubix cube that moves around itself. To make it worse in some of the cubes their are traps. In between each cube is a small crawl space to get to the next cube. In the crawl space is 3 set of numbers which identify which cube they are in. Lol i cant explain it anymore. Why is the cube there? Why are they in it?

its got quite a good rating on imdb heres the link

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0123755/

agree with all the movies ive seen that have been mentioned. My fave has to be dawn of the dead tho.

There's loads of 'video nasties' that were once banned as well..

Driller Killer
Cannibal Ferox
Cannibal Holocaust
Tenebrae
Nekromantik <<< very very wrong and the 'Climax scene' is burnt into my brain now

Watched that Cannibal Holocaust, its just plain madness, seeing them cut off that blokes knob, then they decapitate them and start playing football with a head. Funny but bad at the same time.

FPMSL. Deffo count me in....

I went to a late night screening of the Exorcist once when I was 15 - (how the feck I got in I don't know cause I looked about 10 when i was 15). I had sweaty palms all the way through and can honestly say I saw the inside of my eyelids for about half the film cause they were firmly shut - lol.

LOL @ Salems Lot - I remember watching the serial on TV. There's a bit in that with a scary creature who's in jail and he hisses at David Soul. Scared the bejeezus out of me I can tell you - never ever forget that.

And I'm surprised noones mentioned The Shining. That bit with the nude granny gets me every time....
