I'm not a seller so I don't know about such things, but I always assumed it happened pretty much straight away.

I bought something on Saturday and paid for it straight away, then later that evening the seller got in touch to say that i'd paid by paypal and he's now waiting for the funds to clear then I can arrange to collect what i'd bought. On Sunday I offered to pay cash if he declined the paypal payment, but he told that the money hadn't gone through to his end yet so he couldn't decline the payment. So now i'm playing a waiting game for the seller to get in touch to tell me my payment has cleared.

If you sent an e-cheque (which basically means that you have insufficient funds in your bank account at the time of sending) that would appear as a pending payment at the seller's end and would take up to 9 days to clear. Unfortunately he will not be able to decline that payment. Generally speaking, the only payments you are given the option to decline are those sent in a currency other than that in which your account is set-up ie a payment in euros being sent to a GBP pounds account. I can't remember if this shows as a pending payment at the buyer's end though, so that could cause some confusion, although I would assume it does.

Thanks ed, there's plenty in the bank to cover it and I wish i'd just arranged to pay cash now.

Checked my bank account earlier and the money hadn't left, so checked paypal and spotted the problem. The payment status is showing as 'Unclaimed', so no idea why he hasn't claimed it:S

Check the email address you have sent it to is correct with the seller, I've done this before and cack handed spastic on discogs put the wrong email address down, so no wonder it wasn't claimed :axe:

Aaaah! I just followed the link from the ebay page. That now makes me wonder what would happen if somebody else claimed it:crazy: :cops:

I'd better get in touch and ask him to check the details

I'm getting a bit peed off with paypal now.

The money was was sent straight away and presumably waiting to be collected by the seller in his account, but he wanted cash for the collection (to speed things up and save him a few quid I guess), so I cancelled the payment with the intention of collecting this evening, then find that the money has now gone from my bank account and sitting in my paypal account, so now i've cancelled the payment, they want to speak to me:crazy:

I know what I mean anyway, but looks like this could go on a for a while

Took 2 days before they decided what to do with the money, but now they've freed it from a state of limbo, I can either claim it back or leave it in my paypal account.

Deal done now, and paid with cash instead :p
