How Will I Avoid Getting Static Shocks On Vinyl Decks?

Tomorrow I'm getting some vinyl decks from Cash Converters as one of my CDJs has broke and I need to keep my slot tomorrow on OSA. Last vinyls I had to give away as I kept getting a static shock off them. I took them back only to find out that they have to be earthed to avoid getting static shocks off them. I don't know how much they have to be earthed to stop the static.

Is there any one that uses vinyls that knows on OSA?

Sounds like you need earthing Jonathan.

Make sure the decks are earthed to the mixer and your mixer should earth to the neutral built into the mixer. Regarding yourself, try mixing in bare feet and ensure your slipmats are good quality as cheap ones can cause some static.

Vinyl will always have a little static (unless you have a static zapper) which removes static from the record itself....not needed for mixing and only hifi people tend to use them.

Best of luck on the decks, you will get much more satisfaction from them than the cdj's

Agree with simon there j,youll see whats called a GND lead @ the back of your decks that needs to be fitted tightly to the back of your mixer,most mixers state were GND leads should go.Fit em tightly together and this will reduce static interference,give your records a good clean too and make sure their is no needle fluff on stylus,basic things to do before you start your set i know but ive been caught many a time with fanny hair on the stylus were ive not done these basic steps.

I was going to buy one of those zappers, but the jury seems to be out for whether they work on the hifi bod sites. Also the reviews seem to be hit and miss:think:

Yours does seem to be an unusual problem though Jonathan, rather than the norm. Might have just been a faulty deck or something and should be returned for a refund if you ever get that again mate.

Got another CD decks instead to replace that other one so I will continue to DJ with CDs.

You should give Vinyl a try sometime mate if you haven't already, it's more difficult to mix with but much more fun

buy a midi mixer

i brought a vci 300 in the summer .. cant beat them, all your tunes on a little external hard drive and a laptop or pc, talk about a space saver with no records cluttering your room up, great invention if you ask me them midi mixers, i was allways a 1210 man until i saw these , best thing ive ever brought ..
