Hi All,
I found this forum whilst hunting, and i mean hunting for the name of a tune that Ellis Dee played at Universe in 1992. (ill post in the correct thread later)
My name is John, or Dj Tol and first got into the Hardcore/Rave scene back in the 1990's... (hence the name of the thread ) .
Started off with a old record deck and a cd player back then and used to mix in my bedroom with that, bought another cd player with a sampler on it and the foundation was laid for my still existing enjoyment of the hardcore scene.
It was the use of the cd players that i got my Djing name, the tunes were recorded in Digital format , so Digi-Tal became Dj Tol
My addiction got more and more and bought my 1210's and finally sussed beat mixing
So my love of the music grew with time , started to attend some of the big raves like Eurodance (in prestwick airport if you remember then?) and the Rezerections (in Ingliston near Edinburgh).
Got my first big break in the early 90's playing at 'The Bish' niteclub in elgin, where i had my own night. From there started hosting my own nights called Tolmania™ with alot of the finest local talent and my MC at the time Activator MC who still hosts monthly nights in the north of scotland.
From then got a residency (as Mr Tol) in 'The Jailhouse' until it burnt down in the late 90's. Playing more mainstream, and the monthly warm up sets with the likes of Scott Bond, Tom Boutier (RIP), Graeme Gold and the like. Hardcore was still my bread n butter!!!
Through work, moved and lost touch with alot of scene and spend my days now semi retired, looking after my kids etc.
Still got all my records boxed up in the garage and my 1210s, will have to find the time to get them out and see if i can still mix as well as i did back then, probably like riding a bike . Found a box of all my old mixes and rave mixes which brought me to this very forum (as above)
Favourite Djs, Seduction, Sy and Ellis Dee. Bass generator and Scott Brown
Favourite Tunes, Only if i had some more - Dye Witness, Sample mania - Seduction.
Thank you
