i-pod help needed

this might sound like a daft question to some but is there any way to put all your tracks on an i-pod into groups or files or folders such as "Dance", "Pop", "Indie", "Rock", "Mixes" or whatever ?

i don't have one myself but i bought my mrs an 80 gig one for krimbo and she has around 300 songs on it and it aint anywhere NEAR getting full yet.

this got me thinking ......surely you dont have to skip forward through every single track to find the one you want ????


how exactly can you categorise them into certain groups to make it easier to flick through your tracks ????

i know its a daft quezzy but have ya read the instructions???

there is a way of doin it but fook knows how....my sis has to put tunes on mine coz im a thick cnut lol

i know theres a thing you can select on it that puts certain types on music together but its just a way of playing them not a way or storing them into files

Now then...
Connect yer pod,
In i-tunes click file, go down to 'new playlist'...
Name yer playlist e.g. old skool belters,
In i-tunes 'music' folder right click on a old skool belter (or whatever) and go down to add to playlist.
The track will appear in both the i-tunes 'music' folder and the playlist.

Create playlists mate , on itunes ----> File then new playlist , u can do it other ways bt this way is basic enuff for ya do a few playlists like , Rock , dance , oldskool etc , then right click on a tune and send it to 1 of the playlists uve made , im afraid you would have to do this for every tune , 300 tunes not bad , i had 15,000 tht had do this with , another way this can be done is wen importin a tune to you itunes , right click on the tune and then click get info , from here you can select a genre for that tune , u can also add playlist on u ipod , doesnt have 2 be on ur pc , wen a tune is highlighted on your ipod , hold the circle button down for 2 secs and it will send tht tune to a playlist . then wen u conect ur ipod to pc , it will add this playlist to ur itunes . these settings can be changed and im only assuming your using default seetings

If you look carefully, there's also a 'search' function on the actual ipod, where you can type in what you're looking for, to speed things up.

either creating playlists...or you can put them into genres in itunes...and that will mean u can play any genre you want. I find that better than making playlists (i use those for parties, or moods etc eg-chillout songs etc)...

just go on itunes (either thru ur computers playlist...or ur ipods) and just the same way you change track names...change the genre. you can pick genres when u want on ur ipod...hope this makes sense.

Ah, so it can be done?

This is one of the things that pissed me off with the software tbh, because it was using the genres in the tags instead of the genres I wanted to use. The number of times i've ripped tunes and left them in the default 'blues' is one example of why the iTunes software by default sucks

what a bonus, my birthday tomorow and my mrs has just given me a top notch 120GB ipod classic !!!!! fookin buzzin

this thread is even more relative now cos i'm gonna put my whole "mixes" folder from my pc onto my ipod so i'm gonna need to break them down into playlists like hardcore, retro, italian, early house, etc, etc.

just need to wait for tinternet to get installed on saturday now cos i'm currently only blagging wireless signal from next door lol
