I thought Miami in 2004 was ace how ever mates said this year was pretty much what Gemma said above - maybe because it was Spring Break as well? agree on finding out about other nights beforehand. Alway worths checking out the master list in advance.
One night some peeps who we went with headed off to Carl Cox whilst I went and checked out Sneak, Heather, East Coast Boogiemen Ken, Greenskeepers Live, Miles Maeda, Brett Johnson and many more which was $15 or something equally as cheap. Musically it was on fire and held at Bash which is a quality venue inside and out - we then headed off to the cafeteria which was some cafe towards/past Nikki beach that was pitch black inside and the only time light appeared was when the curtain covering the door was opened to let some one in where it blinded you - crazy experience - Steve Lawler was playing and normally don't rate him musically, how ever for that time of the morning/day he played some real nice down tempo stuff and rolled it out. $15 well spent.
I didn't rate Sonar this year - after managing to get two Sonar Pro passes when we got there after hearing the some of the by night events had sold out, I wish I had spent the money checking out the smaller nights happening in Barcelona - namely Idjut Boys and Steve Kotey all for about 5 Euro instead of hearing some euro chin stroking electronica - don't get me wrong I did hear loads of people I hadn't heard before which I enjoyed and then the more obvious stuff like Luke Vibert, De La Soul, Yoda, Richie Hawtin, The Durritti Column, Jeff Mills, Roisin Murphy, 20:20 sound system so it wasn't all bad - maybe I just hit on the wrong events. Just overall on leaving I didn't rate it as much as everyone had the year before.
I guess at the end of the day it's what you make it.
You up for Miami next year Nog?
