It would cost the already struggling NHS an arm and a leg to do so though. Maybe if your boyfriend/girlfriend had a rep for sleeping about then it wouldn't hurt to pop along.

Regarding aids, I think that every new immigrant to the country should have an aids test, especially if they're from Africa where it's totally out of control. I've been saying this for years though:|

I cant believe we havent done this since the 80's.......oh, I forgot, those magic boats and planes kill all known illegality, attitude and killer diseases dead on thier way over, then its a total mystery how it becomes an epidemic proportion matter suddenly from nowhere, and then blamed on poverty and bad housing etc  .

If it was my best mate's bird in the clinic, Id mention it to my mate yeah. Id just say I saw her picking up some leaflets, then cough, and see what he says. Or if it was a female friend, Id do the same, I think its my duty, cos some of these STD things can make you infertile cant they, and I dont think I could live with myself if something happened and I never said anything.

Doesn't it affect health insurance premiums to have one? I hear that an aids test would!

I doubt that very much!!!! I'm pretty sure that your insurer would WANT to know if you had aids or not... logically speaking.

I can tell who is in the older grouping on this board!!! IE the younger ones are far more open to the suggestion of going, just to go...while the older ones think its just for people who have aids.....THATS HOW STD'S SPREAD!! I do think people should go, it's just like going for a checkup at the doctors...just to make sure.

Lozzie it does affect your health insurance, certainly the company i had it with asked explicitly if you had been tested in the last year before taking out the policy, i am not sure if the premuim goes up but you are obliged to inform them if you have been tested. I think that the rationale behind their thinking is that if you have gone for one, you must consider yourself at risk- in which case they do too. I don't know anyone who has had one, told and it gone up- but then i don't know anyone who has declared it. My friend had one done when he settled down with his no wife, and as he knew it could possibly affect his premium he didnt say owt (the test was neg and he went to one of those drop in centres that you just get a number and don't give your name).

I actually think its mental that this happens, i think that you should be rewarded for being sensible as opposed to being punished. I can understand those at hight risk having to pay more, escorts, known needle uses etc as its common sense that their health is more unstable than those who don't do this- but for those who just have one as a precaution before getting into a relationship when they know they want to participate in none protected intercourse, well surley they are just looking out for both their, and their partners sexual health.

My friend is a midwife and i ws supprised to learn that most expectent mothers are screened once during gestation, without their knowledge or consent. Its odd that they only tell them if its positive- i think that even though i know i am not really at risk it would be great for someone to tell me i am deffo clear.

I agree you should be rewarded for being good like that.

Well, when i get pregnant, and for those that have been, at least you know...if they don't say anything, that ur ok.

It's not just about aids though...although that is just horrible. Everything else is curable isn't it? So you should go, go gog ogogogogoeusgfgejsa!LOL

Thanks for clearing that up Amilie.

I know they used to test ALL pregnant women (without consent) :| but the test was used for HIV statistical purposes and was processed anonymously. So even if you did test positive they wouldn't be able to tell you.
This was in the early nineties. Not sure what the government are doing now.
