Proper fucking fuming.....

I lost my debit card last night so went down the branch today to cancel & get some cash out to tide me over until I received the new one.

Some twat reviewed my overdraft limit yesterday (3500) & pulled it to zero :|

No prior notice to me, no communication thus far... just available balance = zero.

OK I've been living in it for the past year & I know an overdraft is a privilege, not a right but to pull an ARRANGED overdraft like that with no consideration is outrageous in my opinion.

I've got my current account, mortgage & credit card with Halifax, I've never missed a payment, failed a DD or went over the arranged limit...

I did have 700 quid available to me yesterday... now I've got the cash in my pocket (30 odd quid) & a credit card to last me to the 6th...

I've gone & opened a current account with Nat West & plan to get all my DDs & salary payment over there ASAP as I've also got petrol expenses from work coming back to me soon that I need in the new account.

Halifax can fucking swivel for the 2800 overdraft I owe em... I'll pay it off in my own good time now... fuck em !

Their fucking loss too as I've just had a 500 quid net pay increase per month :p

Could it be that the bank have cancelled your overdraft until they issue you a new debit card? Or did they pull the overdraft before you reported your card stolen?

RBS have always been great to me, would recommend them if ya need to switch

Fookin hell  :| that's well out of order! Didn't think they could just get rid of it like that without first consulting you and giving you a valid reason. I've been with the Halifax for years now and I've never reallyt had much of a problem with them tbh ut I have heard other people complaining about them in the past.

Ultimately, this has probably got summat to do with it...
HBOS Plunges And Dow Drops 504 Points On Lehman Failure (from The Herald )
Hbos News Headlines. HBOS Share News. Financial News Articles for Hbos Plc Ord 25P updated throughout the day.

To put it in perspective, a few months back HBOS did a group rights issue to try & raise some cash (4 billion). Currently they are still trading at 20% below that issue price, which would have been artificially low anyway to tempt investors. That should give an idea of the sort of kicking they've had on the markets recently. They have been hit much much worse than anyone thought, and are the worst affected UK bank since the Rock.

The only people who'd have seen this coming were the bigwigs at HBOS, and so in a desperate attempt to hang on to whatever liquidity (assets and cash) they can, they'll no doubt have been panic reviewing accounts, cancelling overdrafts etc. Anything they can do to keep what little money they do have in-house. If you ask me, it's just a measure of how badly they've been hit by the avalanche that the U.S. subprime collapse started.

The good news is, people are now starting to see the weakened HBOS as a nice little earner. I know of people who are starting to buy back in to banking sector stocks already, thinking they've dropped as far as they're gonna. HBOS (mainly Bank of Scotland to be fair) took a much bigger hit than anyone expected in the fallout from Lehmans (making folks wonder what's going on there exactly). They fell harder than most other banks, so anyone looking to buy in is gonna be looking at them closely. Like I said it's all mainly revolving around Bank of Scotland, but any influx of cash will have an impact at group level, and is bound to also affect the other companies in the group.

Right... an update... I'm working at home today which gave me the chance to get shizz sorted like getting new inhalers, streaming the Villa match live in a touch ;) & sorting out new bank / old bank...

I spoke with Halifax & they more or less gave an apology & said I hadn't been runing my account badly - just that the overdraft had reached it's term & nobody had renewed it.. they've slapped back on 3500... & refunded me all charges...

Earlier I had opened up a Nat West account & even though I said I only wanted a ton overdraft they slapped on 5k :|

Who's for a pint ? :eyebrow:

Think I'm still gonna go with NatWest... just don't trust Halifax anymore.... plus my local NatWest branch is plusher & has a neo-classical statue / freize of some bird with her lallies out
