Lately I've noticed that if I lauch ie and connect to the net it freezes the pc temporarily so that I can't open any other programmes. It can do this for a good ten-fifteen mins and when it unfreezes all the programmes I clicked on before start running all at once...!

I try pressing ctrl-alt-del when it freezes but the task manager doesn't appear until it all unfreezes.

In the meantime, any programme that was running prior to connection and my browser run perfectly during the freeze period and I can surf the net unhindered...

Anyone any clues?? I've run Spybot S&D and Avast but there's nowt that they picked up.

Cheers!

In a world of my own
You may have a corrupt inbox in outlook, mine did this.

Go into outlook and delete all emails in all folders first of all, this may solve the issue.

Secondly you can try deleting your .dbx files for outlook and recreating them cause this is whats corrupt

start \ search and look for *.dbx

search for all files an folders and look in the C drive and make sure you go in the advance search and look in hidden files and folders cause its in there

delete all files that are .dbx

eg

delete inbox.dbx and deleted.dbx ect

when you open outlook it will recreat new .dbx files that are not corrupt

and should open fine

lastly you can uninstall outlook and reinstall it from the XP CD but im not typing out how you do this untill youve tried the above first lol

if your stuck on anything or need propper step by step instructions PM me :)

have you tried connecting to the net first then opening IE ? rather then opening IE to connect to the net ?
Aye - thats the big problem. If I connect first everything freezes and can't even open IE either so have to open stuff first before connecting. Anything already open runs fine during the freeze.

I'll d/l that bugdoc and see what happens. Cheers for the help so far. I think u may be onto sommat with at OE error too. I get a message when I close OE that says....

The instruction at "0x77f83aef" referenced memory at "0x009a4e9c". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program

I'll try re-installing OE too....

Cheers for the reply Vengence. Avast and Spybot are my virus and spyware progs that have not picked anything up - it wasn't v clear in my first post, sorry bud...:$

Might be an idea to get Ad-Aware too, as this detects stuff that Spybot doesn't and vice versa

Also, try defragging your computer, I know it sounds one of the easiest solutions, but it wont do any harm either.

Have you un-installed any programmes lately?
Thanks Judderz. I've run Ad-aware as well now. No joy. I don't think this is a virus/spyware problem. Bug doc has found some errors but things still freeze up...

try reinstaling IE from control panel (thats if you are using XP) otherwise upgrade or downgrade. There is software you can download which will remove IE from 98 me etc.

I forgot to ask are you using broadband ? is it cable or adsl ? do u use a firewall ?

Also try clearing your startup programs and test without the background stuff (click start, run and type msconfig deselect startup group reboot and test ) be carefull though as your av software and firewall will be disabled for the test

Failing all the above go buy a sledge hammer and give your computer the what for.....
