That's fair enough, but my point is that you shouldn't have to use any software to add and remove files.

What happens when you're at a mates house who's got some music or video that you want to put on your iPod / iPhone? You can't just plug it in and copy stuff about like you can with all other mp3/media players and usb storage devices.

I just can't for the life of me imagine what Apple were thinking by making this impossible. It's beyond belief...

For the record, I also have the same gripe with my Sony Ericson phone. Comes with a usb lead, but does it show up as mass storage? Does it fuck lol
Glad I didn't buy it, or it would have gone straight back!
Probs coz they get chuffties when you use their software?! ;)

It's the I tunes thats the major bone of contention Arron, without that it seems that you can't transfer files... i managed to get Ubuntu to read it as an external mass memory, found the ipods root folder and transferred mp3s over..... No it didn't work until i booted in to windows and d/l that pile of shite to make it work, which kindly reorganised all my files as total bollocks to the point where it took me 5 hour to find and reorganise everything again DJ absolute i foind in a file called somefucker Nillson, which i know i never created, and Bluejammers stuff in a file called DJ Rhythm i found under Black Sabbath WTF?????

Cool mate , that would be very anoying & i havnt a clue why it doin that but i agree that would take the piss . I thought it was the ipod itself being the prob , my mistake bud . Itunes should be optional really

When my batt goes on ipod at work , I use my Sony Erricson phone instead , Get a 8 gig mem card and ur laffing , If ur at home or a mates house and u want tunes on ur phone you can use the USB lead and drag & drop the tune into ur phone , Simple as . Its just as handy as ipod , no need for itunes . I drag & drop tunes/mixes to my phone every other day using USB lead

Only probs I have with iTunes now ...

1. It auto syncs when I connect my phone, so can take a minute or 2 before I can add files to the phone as it's too busy backing everything up. The upside though is that it saves all the files you want it to in case you need to replace the phone:thumbsup:

2. It often crashes when moving files across:mad: It used to work fine though so that might be some conflict with something on my comp:S

It is a fooker when you're new to using it though and takes a bit of time to learn how to use it. You can put your photo's on your phone without iTunes, so dunno why you can't put music on the same way:S I guess they just make too much money out of you downloading directly from them to offer the normal method to us lot, but that said, once you've sussed it it is fairly strightforward:thumbsup:
