I tried not to say anything but I can't help myself sometimes
You have to be very careful using this type of equipment. First and foremost its really insecure, anyone from your neighbours and passing cars can evesdrop on your web surfing.
Secondly, I know of people who break into systems via home systems found by wardriving techniques. Makes them pretty untraceable and has the FBI knocking on your door. Its really easy to piggy back on your connnection and there's very little you can do about it.
That said, If I was going to go wireless I would want a base station that allows you to reduce the signal so that you can confine it to your room/house otherwise half your street can listen in to what your doing. The DLink doesn't look like you can do it.
Also, IDS software is now available on Linux for wireless. I would use this to watch my network to ensure nothing untoward is going on.
256-bit WEP helps a little but not much, it will probably take them a day to get in. Unfortunately most PCMCIA cards only support 128-bit WEP which sucks.
Personally, I would wait another year before making any investment, the technology is immature and security is taking a back seat although many manufacturers are starting to realise this is whats holding back sales.
