IT help required

My sisters computer has just lost all her documents and music, does anyone know of any good file retevial softwear, or any tips to help me find it as i dont have a clue when it comes to this sort of stuff lol

Hi fella!

Ok, we'll start with the simple things first. It's not in the Recycle Bin is it?, the icon is usually on the desktop.

If you're using Windows XP ....

Open up My Computer and click :

C: > Documents & Settings > [name] > My Documents

are they in there? Did she recall deleting them or moving them?

To do a search,

Click Start > Search and type in *.mp3 this will do a search for all mp3 files. The results will show all MP3's on the system and may give you more clues.

It may be just a case of the files being moved by accident.

If they have been deleted on purpose, it's not so simple I'm afraid....

tried all them m8, computer crashed, and she had to reload the whole of widows XP again, so i think there is a good chance she has lost the lot. I have tried some File recover programs, but to no sucsess

It depends where abouts on the drive the files were stored, as a format doesn't actually wipe the files it just clears "the table of contents" as to which sector of the hard drive the files can be found. If windows has overwritten it the chances are you could say ta ta, but try easyrecovery pro by on track software as its help save a few slices of bacon in the past

yes is the answer to that question, but not now, ill have to find it again

in the mean time DO NOT DELETE anything from your PC DO NOT system restore either.

If you delete shit you will over write the deleted files, if you cant find them with the program ill get you then they have not been deleted and she has moved / renamed / just been fucking female and no techy on this earth can hep you with that one !

thankyou all for your help everyone, i think it could be to late though, she did a system restore on her computer, so like cam said, she has probablie lost the lot
