Yeah, things have gone a bit bonkers with capabilities. The ironic thing about Reason and having to link it to Cubase with ReWire in the past, is that Reason now lets you add VST's into the Reason rack, which is awesome. No fannying about, its just, booosh, in there. When I got my controller keyboard and updated Reason I made a bit of a tune in it, which was okay and sounded good enough sonically, but it isn't professional in terms of all the technicalities and musicianship. Things which have also blown my mind is the AI tech coming along. Although they can still be hit and miss a bit, the AI programs that can take a song and split it up into vocals, beats, bass, etc are astonishing. Back in the day we always got told "you cant un-bake the ingredients in the cake" - but now, it can pull out all the musical nuts and raisins and even have a go at some of the eggs and flour. As for VST's, I saw a video a few months ago about some weird looking new VST/AI plug-in that can listen to a sample of a sound and create a very close copy of it in the VST parameters by automatically tweaking all the knobs and saw tooth waves etc to try and match it. Its stuff like this which makes me a little bit interested in trying to reinvigorate my old hobby of having a go at music. My only claim to fame was (nearly) getting my remix of Pianoman's "blurred" signed up pressed by the man himself as part of a remix 12" - but, rightly or wrongly, I refused to let it go ahead. The problem was that the track used Damon Albarn's vocal loop (as per the original Pianoman version), but because of copyright issues with FFRR they wouldn't allow the vocal to be used on any of the remixes - so he had to get it re-sung by somebody else....and, Jesus, it was dire. It was completly different and almost "mockney" cockney as well as being a different vibe and different key. It may have worked with some of the others, but it just didn't sit right at all overlayed on my track and it was so bad I just couldn't go through with it! (I also had a lot of people bending my ear about Pianoman and sowing all kinds of doubts in my mind about it all - which, quite frankly, in hindsight I am ashamed about as I never even met the guy, but I was still young and impressionable and to be frank, a bit on the Aspergers spectrum as it turns out, so yeah, I could have handled that aspect of it much better). My other claim to fame was, of course, the "I Love Horses, Best of all the animals" advert remix we did on here LOL. Remember that? Edit: It's still on the site! lol. :head: https://www.oldskoolanthems.com/attachments/raverhorse-mp3.20663/
