I bloody hate them, they give me the fear. Just had a second interview at a company that are paying too little for too much. First interview was 75 mins this was 90 mins. Here's a brief section of it

What's your biggest interest out of work?

MUSIC

Really?

YES I LOVE IT AND ALWAYS HAVE

wouldn't you really pursue this further?

NO DEFINATELY NOT IT'S JUST A HOBBY

(BUT REALLY THINKING CAUSE I BLOODY WOULD I WANT TO COME TOGETHER TO TURN INTO THE BIGGEST OLD SKOOL NIGHT EVER SO I DON'T HAVE TO KISS PEOPLES ARSES LIKE YOURS JUST TO GET A MEASLEY SALARY!)

Has any of you ever had any terrible interview experiences?

Was Manchestoh, Now Yorkshire
Had an all day one once,

2 interviews, an exam, 1 "role play" with people you barely know and have to be nice to even when you dont want to and having to be someone that youre not

Typical questions:

How do you respond to awkward customers?

Be nice to them blah, promise to get the problem solved, blah, when really all you are thinking is, just give me the job so I can pay my debts off you t***s

I was a jibbering mess by 5 oclock

But got the job in the end....the fools
;)

Aye, mine for my job now was a 3 stager.

First with the Branch manager, second in the offfice etc getting an insight and third with a director who ripped me to shreds saying I didnt have me head screwed on and didnt knwo where I was going!!

Must have sadi something right cos I got it and its turned out to be excellent....Just not a nice experience coming out of the third thinking 'All those hours and Ive probobaly f**ked it up'.

Up North, pint o tetley
ITS FECKIN RIDICULOUS

i got a accounting degree then couldn't get into accountancy
as i lacked experience (a bit of a catch 22)
so did stockbroking for 2 years
then went back to accountancy
after a year , and a few more proffessional papers passed
i'm looking for a new job

but hang on you now need 2/3 years relevent experience
a year ago all the jobs said 1 years experience

so now i'm stuck in a dead end job (with shit money) looking to get out, and i'll be bloody
fully qualified by the time i get a new job
and then i won't get what i want cos i ain't got the higher level of work experience
plus i'm in the public sector NHS,
so i'm now not qualified to work in the private sector (although worked in private for years)

and then i got to have an interview against 10 others
(equally qualified as me)
to get a job i'm too qualified for
and have numerous interviews for

you just can't bloody win

Interviews are a big waste of time, but their ain't any other way for company's to give jobs, why not a weeks trial
so you can prove you can do the job, a monkey with o levels could do

thats good to get that of my chest

bloody nhs secretarys are on more than me, and a pa is even on £10K more than me, but in a couple of years time i'll be fully qualified,

i hate recruitment consultants / interviews HR and personel
they are all pointless

I had a terrible interview in Sheffield once, I got stuck in traffic, telepohned them up and the receptionist told me not to fret cos the bloke didn't have anything in his diary.

I arrived 2 hours late pi**ed off and soaking wet through.

The bloke was thoroughly unsympathetic to traffic and he said

"Well I can get in for 9:00am, I don't think he appreciated my response of Well you don't have to drive 80 miles do you".

Surprise surprise I didn't get the job but there again a job interview is two ways you gotta weigh up if you wanna go there and I had no intention of working in the environment he promoted

Good luck with your job hunting everyone .......

I got sat in front of a computer and told - make a front page for widgets.com in under an hour.

I did it, got the job and worked there for 2 years! That was good.

I had an interview 3 weeks back I was told lets do a test project together and see how it goes and then we'll decide whether to employ you or not.

I said fine - they said we'll detail the project in the next week and yesterday I got a call saying they'd changed their minds!

 Barsterds 3 weeks wasted!

glad everyone had a chance to let off steam

everyone obviously feels the same way I do. Hate that catch 22 you need experience but we're not going to give it to you bollocks. And I would've fu**ing sued or burnt down that florist. I'm definatley up for working interviews. That's how I got my last job and after a day I was told I could stay as long as i wanted. As it turned out I stayed until they made me redundant :(

Whats youre favourite 'Trick' difficult questions you get asked? Heres a few of mine which leave you wondering what to say........especially without trying to come accross as arrogant, big headed or overconfident but neither a limp lettuice.

"So you've come for the job of (Design Engineer), what makes you think we should take you on? Why do you think you are so special and better than everyone else applying?......

"We havent advertrised the annual pay rate for this position, what would you be realistcly expecting to get for a job like this?....Tell us what you'll be happy with.." ****Here, if u go too high you're being 'unrealistic' and could be way off target to what they are expecting and they wont tke you on, and also if youre too low, they think youre no good at youre job and/or they know they can get away with ripping you off...*****

"The position is for a ('Design Engineer'), why dont you want to be a (design) manager?" ....

The last one I dont think you can really win, because (as I found out) if you say 'yes' I want to really be a manager at a later stage you're implying that the job youre applying for is somehow 'beneath you' and deemed a road to management.
*But* if you say 'No' I do not see myself as a manager for the foreseeable future, I am happy doing the job I'm doing and advancing my knowledge blah blah..." then you are told you dont have any ambition.

Theres loads more, but Ive forgotten. Ill tell you what though, the one I find most annoying are the tricky b@stards who purposely do not act as though theyre really listening, deliberately keep getting your name wrong all the time and keep asking the same questions over and over again to see how you cope/react...whether you keep quiet and pretend to not notice and be a wimp, get confrontational and keep telling them youre name and that youve just answered that, or get angry and frustrated at thier insolence and show youre unease because you dont know if theyre for real or not!.

Sirius.

It seems reading this post, everybody has bad experience in interviews and I'm glad I havent been you lot!. That catch 22 is a real bind too.......
