This has been bothering me for a while.

Was there a piano mix of Africa Bambataa - Just Get Up And Dance, or was this a different tune that just sampled the acca, and if so what was it.

Any ideas guys??

I think its just cheeky peeps sampling 'Afrika's' accapella, one piano choon that springs to mind is....
D.C.H.Q - BAM BAM BABY, But I am led to believe this is originally Italian (I have the UK copy on Itensive records).
If this is true, then I know that Italian record company 'D.F.C' had a deal with Afrika Bambaataa, where they could use him or his voice off previous recordings, over there tunes i.e GLAM - HELLS PARTY!
Probably alot of the tunes that use the 'Get up & dance' Acca', are produced by the DFC team?!?

Does the version you're after have another verse of the rap, because there's another verse on the original.
I think there's a pianoey mix of the original on the release I've got - I'll give it a listen when I get home and report back.

The version I've got definitely has a bit of piano in, this is the DFC release (I think, at work at the mo) with a yellowey brown sleeve

That's the one I've got an all - 6 mixes on there including the acapella.

Ooh no, mine only has 2 or possibly 3 mixes and no acapella, sound like you got extra value for money...

Cheers fellas.

Its not Bassheads, but its the same lyrics for the chorus.

Its not that sample ILOVEPIANO, m8 , but i want a copy of that also now ive heard it, lol.:p

Its a really assertive piano sequence with loads of chords, almost reminiscent of Pianomans the Finest (the way the chords are phrased with diminished 9ths and so forth)

Keep going guys, ps Mike whats the cat number of the dfc release, and is it the original or remixes m8.

Cheers

Sorry sorry sorry - got all confused. I thought I had a DFC release cos it's got the logo on the front cover but it's actually the EMI USA release I have.

Cat: 12MT100

A1 - Club Mix
B1 - Doom Doom Mix
B2 - Detroit Mix

It's the club mix that has the piano in, but it's not really a piano breakdown as such, just a few piano chords behind the chorus.
LOL @ your post - having taken grade 6 music theory many moons ago :$ I really should know what a diminished 9th is, but you've lost me :S

Completely forgot about this thread.

Right from the cover my copy looks like it's on DFC but on closer inspection it's under license to EMI in the US. The cat# is V-56225.

The mixes are:

12" Club Mix
Doom Doom Mix
Detroit Remix
Stomp Remix
Trumpet Mix
A.Cappella Mix

Unfortunately none of them really fit the bill of a Pianoman style. The Stomp remix is spot on but there's no piano.

Btw the 2nd verse goes
"come on and drive on, drive on, drive on in night
you've got that burning power, midnight hour flashing your light, etc"
