Discogs leave the site alone.......changes are creeping in with mp3 sales and now colourful page design. It's a bloody database, admit it it's only interesting to sad bastards like me so stop trying to attract the general public.

...which spawns the question...what do you lot think of mp3 sales? obv owning a digital copy is not the same as the vinyl, but does it affect the value of your "stock" ? (previously know as our collection).
Scince being a member on Discogs I am scared to touch half my collection incase I "degrade" the "near mintness" or whatever. I have been using digital setups for years, I love the fact you can edit and remix in Lab and then bang it straight out in cd quality...and there is no jumping/skipping or potential damage to your vinyl...but for me half the pleasure is touching the plastic that I've touched for years, sifting and flicking through the record bag...looking for something thats yellow with a squiggle on it....getting carried away in the mix and slamming the deck ...lol...well not that anymore but what I'm saying is that vinyl is a very tactile thing and I love mine, which will stay mine forever anyways
If your a dealer and record sales are your bread and butter, then I see exactly why you would offer up mp3 sales, and for the punter who has been after stuff for years..pukka cos your not gonna buy Brass Disc from HMV.
I thought about offering my collection up for mp3 sales on Discogs...but I'm an enthusiast not a dealer and would get a bigger buzz out of offering it up on here for free...to all the "true" old school heads who've kept the scene alive all these years...Discogs will always do good buisness regardless.

I'm not sure I could agree with any of what you say.

My records are for my use, I'm not heavy handed so they will last for years, they give a much better sound including static etc and give the right feel. Digital is cold as are cd's and devalue records.....my only digital are copies of my own vinyl and I have an Allen & Heath DX as a toy.

I have plenty of mint records including some very rare Chicago records worth over £200 each, they still get respectfully used. I love my records and buy them for the music they contain not as investments or for status.

Regarding selling mp3's, you may struggle as you have to hold the copyrights. As I understand if you own an original copy then you can copy once for you own use. I get really pissed of with half whit children who copy mp3's and sell them off on fleabay etc claiming they are not breaking copyright. I'm proud that if i sold my mp3's then I could be nicked as they include all tracks and are unedited ie if the vinyl has a pop then so does the mp3. Anyway they are not for sale.

you misunderstand what I say mate...I would rather give them away to the people who want them as an enthusiast and yeah vinyl is for playing...just posted a link in the full members section for the first batch of 12".

probably get shot for saying this, but it aint necessarily mp3's reducing the value of records, sign of the times, a record is only worth what people will pay for it or can afford to pay for it, a record worth 200 on discogs aint necessarily gonna sell. i picked up some chi tunes direct from chicago the other month, thinking great these will be worth a mint, perhaps they are to some inflated seller but i got them for a couple of dollars each. there must be a reason for that and the seller said yeah people havent got the cash anymore!! - his words

i know its not as simple or straight forward as that but it is a factor :(

i prefer vinyl over digital any day but we are now in a new age.. where there is a market etc etc people will go

The cost of music is now shameful. Vinyl is now for purists like me, mp3's are for people who maybe enjoy the music but don't value it.

I get pleasure from the sound, touch and smell of records, I hate cd's despite having 2 cdj800's mk2's and mp3's are nasty sound quality but are fine for playing around with my toy a&h dx.

What chi did you get and from whom? Need to get in touch with my old contact just to see how he's doing, had some quite unique records and extremely rare chi for $3 each! Would be interested to see what you got if not the regular trax etc stuff as I was a bit young in 84 (11) to know the tunes first hand.

Have a quick look at the message boards, shitty new format with bolt on subscriber sites. Changed for the sake of making money im sure.
