Anyone else stay up to watch the final last night? Absolutely brilliant.
After Ronnie won that amazing 17th frame to go 9-8 you always felt it was in the bag. The blue and pink he potted at the end of that frame were just unbelievable. Incredible nerve and bottle to take shots like that on under that sort of pressure.
Great to see a different type of snooker from most of the big matches. Some of the safety they were playing was unbelievable. They were leaving each other horrible positions... tight on the back cushion & snookered on all balls apart from just the very edge of one red etc... I love snooker matches like that... much better for the spectator than every frame being won on a 70 - 80 break.
Selby was unlucky, he had chances to win it right up to the end, and I'm sure he will rue some of the mid-match frames which he should of won but ended up letting slip...
The fact that Ronnie still managed to win, despite being unhappy with his cue on long balls played softly or with side just makes the victory even more incredible considering some of the shots he was pulling out in the last 2 frames.
They've been talking all week about what needs doing to liven up snooker & make it more entertaining (intro music for the players etc like the darts), well, with matches like last night, i hope they change nothing. Snooker is brilliant at the moment with so many good players who can win trophies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Unlucky Selby. It took a remarkable performance to beat him, but well done Ronnie, definitely a well deserved victory.
