Anyone else stay up to watch the final last night? Absolutely brilliant.

After Ronnie won that amazing 17th frame to go 9-8 you always felt it was in the bag. The blue and pink he potted at the end of that frame were just unbelievable. Incredible nerve and bottle to take shots like that on under that sort of pressure.

Great to see a different type of snooker from most of the big matches. Some of the safety they were playing was unbelievable. They were leaving each other horrible positions... tight on the back cushion & snookered on all balls apart from just the very edge of one red etc... I love snooker matches like that... much better for the spectator than every frame being won on a 70 - 80 break.

Selby was unlucky, he had chances to win it right up to the end, and I'm sure he will rue some of the mid-match frames which he should of won but ended up letting slip...

The fact that Ronnie still managed to win, despite being unhappy with his cue on long balls played softly or with side just makes the victory even more incredible considering some of the shots he was pulling out in the last 2 frames.

They've been talking all week about what needs doing to liven up snooker & make it more entertaining (intro music for the players etc like the darts), well, with matches like last night, i hope they change nothing. Snooker is brilliant at the moment with so many good players who can win trophies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Unlucky Selby. It took a remarkable performance to beat him, but well done Ronnie, definitely a well deserved victory.

Watched the whole tournament from start to finish, been some good snooker throughout, thought the match between Selby and Allen were excellent, up until last night, that has be the match I've ever seen, both playing excellent safeties, positional play, tactical, very close games, as you said Sheikh, there were'nt many high breaks in the whole match last night, awesome snooker.

Watched from when O’Sullivan was 9-8 up. Always used to watch the snooker but not been arsed for a few yrs, so had never seen new(I think its new) rule were they were constantly re-racking. Nor had I seen the sky-sports-type camera angles etc. Quite funny really that they’re actually trying to snaz it up, but its somethin that’s definitely needed.

Yeah, that hawkeye thing they've got now is brilliant.

I think the re-rack rule has always been the same, but both players have to agree to it. I think in years gone by on the slower cloths crowd favourites like Eddie Charlton & Rex Williams would have just tapped the white ball on & off the pack for a few hours before thinking about a re-rack. These kids today, no patience & no stamina so they're looking for a re-rack after the first couple of negative safety shots.

That 18th frame was re-racked twice. Don't think I've ever seen a frame re-racked twice before...

I doubt it.
Especially as he's said he's not interested in winning more titles than Hendry and would be happy just to win a couple more.

He certainly won't take Hendry's century break record, but then I doubt anyone ever will. Just like I doubt anyone will ever win more world titles.

Ronnie's the most naturally talented snooker player ever (IMO) But Hendry (like Tiger Woods, Phil Taylor & one or two others) is the complete sportsman.

I would not underestimate Ronnie when is a hell of a lot better player than Ste Hendry all it takes is hard work & he is more than capable of it more than Ste Hendry could ever be it is just down to Ronnie & his mentality only he can decide his own fate not us!

You mean there hi class sportsman & there is working mans sportsman! ;)

No he's not. He hasn't got the same winning mentality for one thing.

all it takes is hard work & he is more than capable of it more than Ste Hendry could ever be
No he isn't. Ronnie has been saying for years he's not prepared to put the work in to be a great multi-world title winner like Hendry. He has said all along he'll just play when he feels like it. That makes him a spectacular player, sometimes, but it's not what makes a multiple title winner like Hendry or Davis. That takes dedication and discipline. 2 things Ronnie completely lacks. He will even admit that himself.

it is just down to Ronnie & his mentality!
I think anyone who knows anything about snooker would realise that Steven Hendry in his prime was mentally stronger than Ronnie by far.

& you mean there hi class sportsman & there is working mans sportsman! ;)
No, I meant exactly what I said. There are spectacularly talented snooker players (Higgins, White, O'Sullivan) and there are great sportsmen in snooker (Reardon, Davis, Hendry)

Higgins won 2 world titles, White never won any, Ronnie has won 3, so far.
Reardon won 6, Davis won 6, Hendry won 7.

When O'Sullivan wins 3 more world titles, then he can rightly be ranked up there with Reardon, Davis & Hendry. Not before.

One final stat for you...

Davis was 32 when he won his last world title.
Hendry was 30 when he won his last.

O'Sullivan is 33 already.

I'am not going to argue! i really can't be assed!

Ste Hendry on form vs Ronnie of form Ste would lose hands down!

Ronnie is natural you can't ever be better than natural it's impossible! like i said it's just down to Ronnie not us!

Ronnie is the greastest player to ever pick up a cue! Ronnie is winning tournaments now Steven is'nt now let me take a moment to work out what that means! doh

Plus i would say the players were easier to beat in Steven Hendrys day!

PS:Even Ste says Ronnie is the best player to ever pick up a cue! & i think he counts more than what we think about snooker! {keep on laughing} LMAO!

Winning is'nt everything!

RONNIE IS THE MAN! He is pure & natural!

ROFL
I'd advise you not to argue, because your argument is based on nothing but hot air.
How do you know Ronnie would beat Hendry in his prime? He might, he might not lol.

Ronnie is the most naturally talented player ever... I said that in my first post... That doesn't make him a great champion. It takes more than just talent to be a multiple world champion in sport. Any fool knows that.

As for "Ronnie is winning tournaments now... well... duh... he's nearly 10 years younger than Hendry... and who's to say Hendry won't win another one? (there were 10 years between the world titles Alex Higgins won).

hahaha well that sort of daytime TV "Take A Break" magazine pop philosophy "It's all about being positive in life" makes me puke :D lol

Fact is you just don't like anyone disagreeing with you. Ever. About anything.

In terms of this thread, you have no basis for any of your hot air about Ronnie O. You're just spouting your own opinion (which you're entitled to do) but you can't back it up with any facts. That just shows that actually you know nothing about this subject lol.

On that basis, I'm happy to agree to disagree.

I agree with post # 6

Even Ronnie admits in an intervew he is not willing to put in the effort to do what Hendry has done.

Alec Higgins and Ronnie are the most talented players there has ever been but Hendry is the greatest snooker player ever.

why do have to come out with such agressive posts like that mate? give the lad some respect, if he's got an opinion, at least respect it instead of spending half an hour ripping his posts aprt, quoting this, quoting that, to make yourself look like some legal expert or something.

and of all things, its a feckin post about snooker. :ghost:

at least your post count's going up eh.

Nothing aggressive there, maybe it's the interpretation?
Easiest thing in the world to have an opinion. They are like arseholes after all, as someone once said.

Not everyone can justify or back up the opinions they hold though, yet will still try to claim they know better than those who can.

IMO stating your own opinion is one thing, but if you're going to disagree with someone else, then it's good manners to justify your reasons for doing so.

I think you'll find I did that.

Disrespectful would be to claim you are right and someone else is wrong, without providing any justification for doing so.

P.S. If you're gonna have a pop completely unrelated to the thread topic, why not use a PM?
