Man Parris I'll admit to havin a special place in my heart for - mainly coz of Eclipse memories...

This is the dilemma for me too Shooms. Now I would say a big fat deffo 'NO' to MC's in the main, but back then it was a different kettle of fish.

Man Parris and Eclipse is the prime example. Back in 90/91 he was (to me and me mates anyways) as important a name on the bill as the DJ's.

Some of those Eclipse sets I can remember sitting in cars listening to them on the way to or from somewhere and some have MC bits that just wouldn't sound the same now if they weren't on it if you get what I mean.

Rat Pack, Mad P aswell later on - fair do's, could still handle them and I can't remember a time when they really spoilt a night or DJ set for me. In some cases they even make the set what it is - eg. Top Buzz NYE 91.

I guess tho Top Buzz and Rat Pack etc. had their regular MC so it kind of works better that way. Its when they just shout the DJ name or a load of pilled up bollocks that gets me. When there's no creativity or knowledge of where to MC during a tune or break etc.

Saying that. There's deffo tunes that are more "acceptible" for MC'ing over like old skool rave from 92. Deffo NOT over warehouse/hac/hazy stuff from 88/89/90 tho please...:naughty: :D

Now what peeps on here forget to realise is the fact that most peeps on here look at this from a dj's point of view or from a tune lovers point of view.
Most clubbers don't care less, they are just there to have a good time. Now all my mates love mc's and most of the peeps who go to the same nights as me also love mc's so thats why clubs have em.
I think people need to get of there high horses some time on here and just think of the general publics view and then try to understand why mc's are a good thing in the main.
I do understand to a point peeps views on here. Last week I turned mc Lou of because she was singing over the vocals on my chosew few - nobody's business but I do think in the main they get a night rockin

Was a really annoying MC back in 'The Limit' years ago, called MC Sasoon, who thought he was the dogs etc etc, used to annoy me when I was mixing, so I would unplug him lol, he didn't like it much.

If they yap too much, unplug em or hide them mics :cops:

Easty thats's bollocks imo... the whole poll is about peoples personal opinions - therefore people have expressed their opinions as per the thread & as they are perfectly entitled to - it's got nowt to 'getting off their high horses'.

Also if you look at the people who has posted an opinion you've got a whole spectrum on here from DJs to music makers to clubbers to music anoraks - you can't say that the poll feedback is biased to one dynamic of the raving community.

I'd love to know who these 'general public' people are that you are speaking on behalf of ;) :p However (& yes I know this will sound snobbish) nights that play that 'pumping' sound of northern piano house post 1995 will have MCs that go down a treat... but imo thats only coz the music is so shite it needs something to lift the clubbers.

When you have pure unadulterated emotional house made from the heart & the soul you need nothing else for the vibe.

As a great man once said "House is a feeling"; he didn't say "House is a feeling SO MAKE SOME FAAAKIN NOIZE OI OI OI !"

shooms mate, pay absolutely no attention to this what so ever. I am stuck in work, extremely stressed and tired and I admit I bit at your comments. I thought you were having a pop at the type of tunes i play.
As for mc's, i was trying to give a balanced opinion. I even gave an example of where I kind of agreed with ya's.
As for your point about the general public. All the peeps on here who have given their opinion have an interest in the music otherwise they would not be on here in the 1st place. Most of the peeps who I know go to old skool nights don't have the same love of the music. They are just tunes they like. Most go out just to escape the monotiny of their normal every day lives. Basically they go out to get smashed and an mc makes the buzz better. They are not mithered whether an mc is singing over a vocal or a scratch. They just want to lose the plot.
Plus shooms you have to admit if the vast majority of peeps did'nt like mc's then promoters would not book em. It's supplying a demand. If peeps did'nt like em then there would be no suxch thing as an mc in a nightclub:thumbsup:

I remember a specifically crap M.C called Mr Motivator from an old jungle tape... Maybe from 93/94.

Was this the same guy who wore cycling shorts and did the aerobics on morning TV? :D

Do we have a list of certified crap M.C's ?

Im sorry to the MC's who frequent this site, but Id rather drink my own puke than listen to somebody butcher a great set going "Come folla me, come folla me, reach, reach, make some noize boyz" and all that inane bollax.

Good job I dont go out to clubs anymore, cos Im not sure if I could actually put up with it and not take a large roll of Gaffa tape to wrap round the verbally challenged lyrinx's and wedge that mic well and truelly up thier rectums.

Theres been very few occasions where Ive liked Mc's, and even fewer tapes of events that feature them. The exceptoin being some occasional bouts on old zone tapes and gallery tapes, and a few outbursts on some old KennyKen 'edge' type tapes. At events i found them irritating if they were let loose for ages on end, and at home or in the car I find it embarassing to be heard playing that shit.

I think some people can like them, and fair do's, some do and some dont, some work, some dont - on a club atmosphear. Recording the mic on the tapes and Cd mixes is a bad idea, especially if its equally in the mix. Poeple should get the choice of buying 'with' or 'without' Mc's. Some are skilled, the majority are not and just love the sound of thier own hype in my opinion, like a DJ of old who used to say "heres a great record by ..." and then proceed to fade the fucking thing out every minute or so to anounce some inane like "Get your drinks at the bar" or indeed "Oi, you dont bowl like that luv, what you like, youre a mad un you eh"

I do find the old jokes are the best though, and I cant resist poking fun at the notion that the MC is Scottish.......in full kilt and pattern. Oh dear. lol.

Sorry to be harsh, but Ive just typed a 5,200+ word reply to a topic, which Ive decided not to bother posting as I waste my time discussing anything in these quarters, so Im that way out! lol.

Mc Bin'em for all Im bothered. Im sure I can survive without MC Earache. Besides, you can have as many as you like, doesnt bother me, its not asthough Im gonna actually be there in a club smashed out my face and buzzing off it is it.

Most MCs are gettin me on my nervs; I dont want peeps talking over the best parts of trax. On the other hand it could work, if the MCs good.

I dont mind em as long as they know their tunes and know when to shut up. Its does annoy me however when Im doing a mix that is there to create a total new sound and their chattin over it, same thing with big breaks/riffs/pianos breaks etc, I think they sound good when they add that extra beef to the big fk off whatever it is that is coming in if you know what I mean. Yeah Maddox n Lou are good. It creates a good atmos when they whoop up the crowd for the DJ whos on as well. Altho a lot of MC's these days seem to think they own the place tho, thats why they chat so much bollacks over everything all night. Back in the day they were a little more minimal with what they came out with, I prefer it that way tbh

So lol my vote is, I dont mind em:thumbsup:

there are good MC's  who can work with you (remember mc storm???), and there's the dick heads who think they're mc's. Like everything in life you only need one bad experience of summat to put you off forever. ;) ..

Robbie Dee, Mad P and a few jungle mc's like GQ, Moose and Navigator are ok.
Most MC's just dont know when to shut up!
