Does anyone know if the standard insurance that you take out on your mobile phone when you get it covers against accidental damage ?
My mobile was in a bag today and got soaked with blackcurrent cordial. I've managed to dry it out but it's now got a mind of it's own and a few of the buttons aint working.
I'm scared to ring up and try to claim saying that I've damaged it incase they turn round and tell me that it's not covered.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I pay about a fiver a month for my N70 with O2 (think most companies charge arond the same - the price you pay depends on the level of cover)
The thing to do is check your copy of the insurance policy that should be included with the contract you took out and see what level of cover you have.
Try looking on your bill and see if it says on there - it will have how much you pay and maybe what type (some insurance companies brand it by bronze, silver, gold cover etc etc)
Some only cover you for loss or theft and some cover you for this as well as accidental damage.

It is difficult cos you dont say how much you pay for your insurance and who your contract is with.

You could always have a sneaky chat with someone in the mobile shop and see if they can check for you and let you know whats covered in your policy.
Hopefully it will either be a straight replacement or a repair (with a temp loan phone)
Good luck

Cheers for the reply MD
Shockingly when I woke up this morning my phone was back to normal or at least it seems to be.
Not had much of a chance to test it out properly yet as I've spent the best part of 4 hours in the cinema watching Superman Returns with my son, but it's gonna get a battering this afternoon to make sure everything is working properly.

Just out of curiosity, I'm with T-Mobile and I pay a fiver a month for insurance.
Do you reckon that will just cover me for loss & theft ?

Hi there

If you are with T-Moby and you took out their insurance then it will most likely be FoneSafe and it will definitely be covered :)

I dropped mine down the toilet on Saturday and rang them up and picked up a replacement with £25 excess the same day from the nearest T-Moby store.

Give them a call mate, by the way, I'm with T-Moby and pay £5.99 a month to Fonesafe.

Good luck!!

Cheers for that mate.
I'm not sure if my insurance company is the same as yours. It appears on my bank statement as homecare insurance.
Did you buy your phone direct from T-Mobile ? If so did you actually buy it from the shop or did you get it online ?
Also did they take your damaged phone off you when they gave you a replacement ?

Word of warning...

Dont take mobile phone insurance from anyone but the network. So if you go in Carphone Whorehouse/Phones4U etc tell them to shove their insurance. Faulty phone will be sent away, lost one will take a week or so.

Get it with Orange etc direct and itll be next day no fucking about and its generally a £5 pm or something. I know most have started charging "admin" fees for replacements but a little bit of kick off will get that waived no probs.

Hi Charlie

Mine comes up on my bank statement as HOMECARE too ... promise you mate, you'll have the same insurance. I bought my phone online from T-Mobile website but it doesn't matter as they are the insurance company for T-Mobile even if you bought it in the T-Mobile shop.

Ring them mate, you won't be disappointed.

They will take your old phone though in exchange.
