This has been doing my head in now for a few days!!!

Basically some "little fingers" have altered some display settings in Control Panel as far as I can tell. Although I cannot find out exactly what the "little fingers" have done!!

I think the resolution has been set to minimum size and colours on screen to 16 - obviously this cocks the screen up and I can't see anything properly! Now here's the buggery bit.....

When I change back to say 256 colours and a decent resolution, click OK or Apply and restart the pc it just reverts automatically to 16 colours/min resolution!!!

I have tried starting up pc in safe mode and adjusting settings, then restarting but the same thing happens.

Now someone told me that the drivers for the monitor/graphics card may have been corrupted when the "little fingers" changed the settings and this is why I can't revert to anything different.

However, tried downloading monitor driver and installing but pc says that there is already a better one installed. Tried downloading graphics card driver but having trouble installing this and getting pc to recognise it!!

I have also noticed that threre is an icon in control panel saying "Intel Graphics something or other". When I click on this it says Run32xxx.dll not available or something like that. Could this be anything to do with the problem?????

Please any help much appreciated as the pc is virtually unusable at present - and will be more so when I chuck it out the window!!!!

System is:

Dell Inspiron
Benq V551 monitor
Intel 82810 Graphics Card

Thanks

What I would do is goto Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager & under Display Adapters highlight the Intel display & delete it, now restart the PC & let it be found again & install the drivers.
If theres a driver problem that will correct it & reset the display settings etc.

monitor settings are found by pressing the buttons on the monitor, not in windows.
Brightness, Contrast, Colour Control are all found there.

i would check those first before installing anything.

That wont be sorted by changing any settings on the monitor.

Thanks JAZ. I'll give that a try tonight!

However, when I tried to burn a CD at the weekend the software package would not open! It now says there is no soundcard or it cannot recognise a soundcard:confused:

Now, when I went into device manager/hardware etc it says there is a soundcard there and its working properly and also that the driver is present! Now this is also pissing me off! All of a sudden both grpahics and soudn cards/drivers seem to knackered! I'm beginning to get the feeling that the old pc is about to die on its feet! Any further ideas about why this could be happening or is it really about ready to be chucked on the tip???

Thanks for any further advice!
