Press Release From Lancs Police Nightclub shut down after police raid A nightclub has been shut down under new legislation to tackle anti-social behaviour and drug abuse. The club, in Great Harwood, Lancashire, has become the first in the UK to be served with a Closure of Premises Order under the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003. The order can be used on premises that are "concerned in the production, supply or use of Class A drugs", Lancashire police said. About 200 police officers raided Monroe's The All Nighter Dance Club at 3am today. Ecstasy, amphetamines and cannabis were found at the unlicensed, private members' club, along with two Samurai swords and CS gas canisters. Seven people were arrested on drug and weapon-related offences, and the club was shut down. This morning's raid was the culmination of an 18-month operation, codenamed Escort, by Lancashire Police. Before this morning's raid, 85 people had been arrested and drugs such as heroin and cocaine had been seized along with hammers, baseball bats, long-bladed knives, a "tasar" gun, pick axe handles, small knives and a police baton. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Smith, who led the raid, said: "The objective of this morning's operation was to secure and preserve evidence to support a prosecution for offences committed by the management, employees and members of the club. "We want to reassure the public that criminal activity associated with the club will not, and has not, been tolerated."
