Well last weekend was The Montane Lakeland 50 Ultra Tour Of The Lake District
Myself, Stu, Kev & Dave set off on Friday evening down to The John Ruskin School in Coniston and set up camp.
On the Saturday up bright and early and met up with some other idiots from Carlisle we knew who were also participating in this event, incase anyone isnt aware its basically a 50mile ultra distance tour of the Lake District from Dalemain House near Penrith to Coniston to be completed in 24hrs, (there is also a 100mile version which started at Coniston, we only completed the second half of this!)
the weather on the Saturday was Brutal! going over High and Low Kop was a slog, and ascending out of Kentmere at around 9pm i hit 'the wall!!' lost the plot completly and just wanted to pack in!, a few energy gels later, we finally got to Ambleside around Midnight, put some blister plasters on, new socks and feet bandaged up, we headed for Great Langdale and the Chapel Stile checkpoint, walking/jogging in pitch black with headtorches is hard, hard work! finally got to the Tilberthwaite checkpoint around 5.30am knowing only 3.5mile to go! and arrived in Coniston at 7.30am
total time 19hrs 5min 09sec 331st out of 404 finishers (469 had started)
a fantasic weekend that i would recommend to anyone stupid enough to accept the challenge! i'll be back next year for sure!
With £500 raised for Fix the Fells and to date over £800 on JustGiving + our sponsorship form monies raised for our nominated charity SANDS (Stillborn & Neonatal Death Society) it was worth every 19 tortourous hours!
