I don't remember any being dodgy, well apart from the bouncers at Pleasuredrome and then Bowlers who liked kicking the door in the toilets open if you were taking a dump, or making your male mates strip off so they could perve over them, probably. Not sure how I missed that as I was there that night (and every other), but I must have gone outside before those of my mates were collared then stripped :p

Heard mates say afterwards that Angels, Hippodrome and one or two others were dodgy with gangs operating openly, but I loved these clubs when we went and I was oblivious to it all, so might just have been something and nothing

Konspiracy in Manchester was one of the most nerve wrecking nights out. Part of the fun was knowing you hadn't been killed at the end of the night. I was 17 back then. Crazy times!

The posh bit of Liverpool
Doncaster Warehouse......

The few times I went it was always hit or miss as to whether we made it out or not.... I blame the sharp dress sense and electric personality but I think it was just because... well doncaster :D

re: hacienda

Hacienda.

Gang violence got so bad it got shut down. I only went twice, the first time I went (mid 90s), some crackhead kids from somewhere like moss side sucker punched me in the side of the head (!) and did the same or worse to another poor dude who walked in the same toilets. Luckily, the bouncers did turf the little feckers out after that, so I can't have been the only one on the receiving end of their abuse, was never very keen on it again after that, mind you, bolton had it's fair share of shitholes, think every northern town did.

Louisiana formerly Middlesbrough
Doncaster Warehouse 1993 - Watched a bouncer pin a guy to the wall by his throat about 6 inches off the ground.

Uprising at The Adelphi in Sheffield about 1995 - Parked up and massive bang on the back of the car which turned out to be a lad getting slammed into it. Got out and the fighting continued a lad got KO'd and the lad that did it took some steps back made a Tarzan roar, ran and 2 footed jumped onto the lads head.

Then we went inside and obviously sat in somebodies spot as I had a thick glass ashtray thrown at me. Then to finish off the night went outside and the car had been broken into and all our tapes nicked.

The Colosseum in Stockton - Was extremely shady aswell. Most bouncers were absolute lunatic North East gangsters, a lad had an asthma attack on the dancefloor and was carted outside and thrown in a nearby garden and died.

The odd thing is you kinda got used to it all but looking back :naughty:

Doncaster
Hope I'll be excused for dragging up an old thread. Interesting that several people have mentioned Doncaster Warehouse, and rightly so. Being a resident of the town I was familiar with it but never went in due to the reputation, what we all heard from people who did was enough! My younger brother used to go in and that was recommendation enough to avoid it, as he was (still is) a dodgy fucker. Serious clubbers in Doncaster went to Sheffield.

Yes, the Adelphi in Sheffield could be rough too but for me the worst in the area was Niche in Sheffield. Often found ourselves in there after Gatecrasher as it was open until midday or summat, long after Crasher kicked out. Sunday morning you had hours before the first train so it was Hobsons choice, Niche to stay warm. Really nasty atmosphere, lots of massive blokes in there (popular with the Blades Boys Club) and open drug dealing. Eventually got shut down after a bouncer was murdered on the door.

Sounds bad reading it now but to put it into context, at that time in any northern town you could easily get your head toed in any night of the week in an ordinary pub or nightclub just because someone decided they didn't like the look of you. So this sort of shit in a club was just pretty ordinary. You learned to be streetwise and avoid trouble, or didn't survive. It was because of this sort of thing that the genuinely friendly clubs were special but anyone thinking that was the norm is either using rose tinted specs or wasn't there, they were rare and got rarer as clubbing became invaded by the pub pissheads.
