Phil, Go to http://www.proxomitron.org and download a copy of the proxomitron. When you install it you need to tell your browser to use a proxy, go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings. Check the box, and the proxy address is 'localhost' and the port number is '8080'. Thats it !! your cooking :) Have a read through the proxomitron site. There's lots of extra filters you can download. The basic install of proxomitron can: Stop or limit Pop-up windows Control MIDI music and other sounds Freeze animated .GIFs - load only the first frame Kill most all advertising banners Stop Web-Branding and other scripts added by web space providers Stop Pop-up alert/confirm boxes Remove slow web counters Stop web pages and ads from "auto-refreshing" Remove Dynamic HTML Prevent getting stuck in someone's frames Remove frames or tables altogether for that matter Kill or change selected Java scripts and applets Add your own scripts to pages! Remove or replace web page and/or table background images Stop Status bar scrollers Unhide URLs obscured by status line text Convert blinking text to bold Remove Layers and Style sheets Automatically re-write or redirect URLs Create lists of sites to block or allow Create similar lists for just about anything else And as they say, much, much more... You can feed a list of public proxies into the tool and every web request you make will be sent to a different proxy. Just in case you don't know.... a proxy is just a server that makes requests on behalf of another system. So... you send your request to a proxy and the proxy connects to the website on your behalf and sends the results back to you :) That means that the website has the IP of the proxy in its logs and not yours :) You want to use anonymous proxies.... some public proxies will make the request but add an extra header to the request stating who it making the request for :( Anonymous proxies don't do this... so get one of those. Here's a few lists of public proxies available: http://tools.rosinstrument.com/proxy/ http://www.novelsoft.com/dark/proxy/main.htm http://www.multiproxy.org/ You need to find a site like www.whatsmyip.net to test that the correct IP is being displayed... or find a site that runs a whoami service that displays all the headers if you want to be sure :) You can use a tool like 'proxyhunter' to find unlisted proxies and its pretty fast for class c networks. But I may be going to far to fast. Try proxomitron and feel free to ask any question either publically, pm or email :) The next lesson will be shell bouncing, wingates and proxy chaining ;) I hope this was of some use. --- Fug
