I gave my decks and mixer to my brother and I'm starting to regret it.

I've decided to buy myself some new ones and want to know which are better.... 1200's or 1210's?? or something else like the vestex decks??

Also... any recommendations on Mixers or Headphones?

I saw a pic of Butty's house (I think) after a GT night and the decks were on a kewl looking stand.... where did this come from? any recommendations on something like that as desk space is at a premium and currently owned by my home network.

oh yeah... nearly forgot. Record Boxes... I've been told that my parents no longer want to store my record collection at their house. I want to get my hands on some good quality record boxes... any links/shops that sell them at a resonable price?

Thanks for that.... but I need something a bit more portable that can be hidden from view if we have visiters :( Mandate from the girlfriend who won't let me take over 2 rooms :( :(

What I have found off board is that the 1200Mk2's are better than the 1210Mk2's... due to the fact that the 1210's are a bit lighter and suffer from a slight distortion thats not present in the 1210. Is this bullsh*t?

I'm of the understanding that the current version is the Mk3 and the differences don't exist. But I think the silver 1200's look better :)

Anyone confirm this for me?

#1

#2

Straight arm, supposedly very un-skippable, fast starter and better for scratching cause of the higher torque

I think I'm losing the plot... I've started a thread in which I'm chatting to myself and replying to myself? Is this a mark of insanity? Am I losing it???

Don't know if this may be of use...

Don't know if this link may be of use to you "DJ" types....

Richer Sounds tend to be good for normal HI-FI kit,

http://www.richersounds.com

They have a section relating to DJ Gear, with prices/comparisons on products...

Hope it proves useful guys....

Chav-ville Droylsden, innit!
Fugs, just get whatever kit you fancy, matey!

As long as yer mixer has got an x-fader, what else do you need? ;)

I've had my Pioneer DJM600 for about 6 weeks, and I've still not used most of the features - don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

The European model I have is black, not this nasty grey colour:

Get yerself down to a DJ gear shop and have a good play with some stuff, see what tickles ya fancy!

Good luck! :phones: :phones: :phones:

I'll second that adam , bought myself a set of those sony headphones (mdr-v700's) about 2 months ago and have 2 say there best headphones i ever seen or used!!!
As for the decks don't really know as i know a few people who have 1 or the other ( vestax or technics ) and they reckon there as good as each other, the vestax have alot more features (upto +/- 50% pitch control forward and reverse play and a few other bits and pieces) but the technics deffinitly seem alot more reliable .I've had my 1210's for about 5 yrs now and touch wood nothin's ever gone wrong with them.

I really want to get the vestex decks but my fear is that I will get so used to playing on them that if I ever decide to start DJ'ing again then I'll have a mare using the technic's ones.

I use to own a set of crappy belt-driven soundlabs but I could mix really well on them but when I was using technics everything went to pot... don't want to be in that situation again, I might go with the technics.

Black or Silver?? :)

Fug, my missus bought it me as part of my wedding present, I think it cost about £600 (d'oh!). :S

I had a DJM500 about 4 years ago, and it's almost identical to that, with a couple of extra DSP effects and a sampler (which is one of the things I haven't used yet - not even once).

I'm sure you could pick up a 2nd hand DJM500 for about £150?

I need some decent 'phones myself, so I'm interested in what everyone's saying about those in this post...

Round Up

Thanks for all your help guys.

I'm getting 1210 Mk3's but ppl say the vestex decks are better, especially for the scratch kings. It all sounds like the betamax vs VHS debate... and I'm not getting sucker punched again :)

The resounding vote on headphones is.... Sony MDR-V700's. Everyone recommends these... and I've not seen one bad review.

Mixers, not decided yet, either a Pioneer DJM600 or 500 or a vestex XXXX (forgot the name).

As to the desk... Well until I find a house I need something portable. I'm getting a guitar case type thing that house's 2 decks and a mixer. The unit seals up like a suitcase which means I can keep it mobile. Bit steep at £100 but heh :)

Best deal I found was at Sapphires.co.uk. They offer 2 x 1210's, needles, slipmat, mixer, headphones and record bag for £700. I've not gone for this but I should have.

Everywhere else you'd just get 2 x 1210's with no slipmat or needles for that price.

I compared prices from about 6 recommended shops... if anyone is interested in seeing the comparison chart I'll post it.

I really don't think you can go wrong with either the Technics or Vestax turntables, mate.

It's bit like buying a Ferrari, and thinking "should I have bought the Lamborghini?", while your mate who's bought a Lamborghini is thinking "should I have bought the Ferrari?".

Have fun with em!
