Found this topic while searching the net and had to reply and set a few records straight, as it were. I was the Friday & Saturday resident at Never Never Land from 1999 to 2002 and I can say that on a Friday & Saturday night NNL has never been a gay venue. The gay night was, & still is, held on a Sunday. The misconception that NNL was gay only has been rife in Blackburn since the outset as the current & previous owners establishments have been gay freindly. The Sunday night is a mix of gay/lesbian & straight people & the music policy is upfront dance/trance. The gay music scene is often the place where tracks surface before crossing over to the `regular` dance scene. The best comparison to the Sunday music policy at NNL is that it is based on Essentials in Manchester & Flamingos in Blackpool, but is nothing like the percieved idea that a gay club must be like The Blue Oyster in Police Academy! The current Friday & Saturday line up is excellent and the place is a lock-out by midnight every Friday night. National Anthems on Saturday is excellent too. As for Sundays, well I try my best! ;) :spin:
