I thought i'd had one of my luckier finds of the last few years when i picked up this for £2 recently, but after a listen i'm not so sure. The sound quality is pretty awful, like needle burn, but its throughout the whole track. The link below contains a particularly bad section (I've been practicing ripping my vinyl for a few years now, and while i'm no professional, i'm generally able to get pretty good results these days. This just sounds crap).

NWC.mp3

Has anyone out there already got this? Is it a badly mastered vinyl in other copies, or have i just picked up a shabby piece of plastic?

Cheers

I've got a copy, it's not the best pressing but can't say its bad really... Top tune

This is taken from youtube:

"I wanna tell you a story. This record was released in 1992, and originally commissioned/produced by a house music loving property developer ( Andy Kilner). He had just opened a record shop in Sheffield called New World Record Corporation, hence the title.

The track was engineered/co-produced/mixed by Robert Gordon of the Forgemasters.
Anyone who heard the original master tape will tell you how amazing it sounded.

However,as you can hear, the sound quality of this recording is poor in a Chicago-trax-recycled-vinyl kind of way. That's a result of the old cutting machine that Rob Gordon used to master the vinyl. The lathe used to belong to Berry Gordy of Motown and was used to cut all the old Motown hits ,like Diana Ross , Jacksons etc and so had been in use for nearly 30 years and was pretty knackered.

Also to add to that, somebody apparently spilt water over the stampers (how?). I cant imagine that would have helped.

The B side had a mix by travelling sound system people DIY who had at the time just released a single on WARP.

Hope you enjoy it anyway.

1992 NWRC"

Thanks everyone for those replies, i really appreciate the info. BlackburnRaver, it's pretty tragic to read that about the general quality of the vinyl on such a great old tune. I've got a fair few old white labels and as i'm sure most of you know, the mastering wasn't always great on some of these; but this one is so bad I was on the verge of chucking it out. Have any of you guys listened to my mp3 clip? Is this worse than you own copies?

If anyone out there knows the producer then they should whisper "repress" into their ear!
