Right, for about the last week or two, there's been a lot of hiss on the phone line when my computer is on. I swapped the DSL filters around and still no change. It would seem a little strange that both of them have gone dodgy at the same time. The noise is only there when my comp is on. I'm not arsed coz I never use the house phone, but it's pissing my mum off something bad! Can anyone help???

Are you on a BT line or NTL Cable? If its a BT line then this is usually something to do with the exchange you are connected to..

Its likely that the pairs on the cable you are connected to at the PBX (the BT Exchange) have become damaged by water, it usually affects a whole cable at some point..

I'd complain to BT. Here comes the difficult bit.. (getting them to admit its their problem) They will send out an engineer to check your line, if they dont diagnose a fault they could charge you. However if you stick to your story and complain enough they will change it and hey presto, no hiss on the line

Cheers mate, but wouldn't that mean that the line would be hissy all the time? Coz it's only doing it when my computer is switched on. Also interfeers (how do you spell that? LMAO) with MW radio reception too. It's very strange...

Ah I see, Altho it can be intermittent mate, as the water line changes, might not be the same problem :|

A few people I know have had similar problems, intermittent noise on the line, slow download rates etc.. and its always been cured by BT changing the pairs to the exchange..

What DSL router do you use? and what make are your microfilters?

I'd put money on Konspiracy being 100% right. Call BT and get them to do a line test.

Modem is a BT voyager 100 and the filters are BT ADSL MF 50

If it was the line though, it surely wouldn't make a difference if my comp was on or off though would it???

Cheers anyway, I'll give BT a ring and see what they say.

Not necessarily, it can be affected by the amount of traffic propogated through the line. For instance, a session establishment can generate a increased amount of traffic, as can downloads, hence more noise, possibly the same with radio..

BT can be reet cnuts though, they know its a common problem, but they dont like to admit it ;)
