I'd like to understand the differences in music between the North and South of England. I've read on a few other sites and in a recent IDJ about different tunes being played in different areas of England back in the day and today. I need an education! Could anybody give me examples of choice Old Skool tunes from the North compared to the choice ones from the South during the same period (91/92/93)? Thanks.

i dont think there was much of a divide until about 92/93 but down south we definitly liked the harder sound of hardcore/techno but saying that i used to travel up to Stoke/Shelleys and Coventry/Eclipse alot and there didnt seem to be alot of difference in what was being played there to down here.

Have you ever heard MANIX - Oblivion (I just like to walk with my head in the clouds) on reinforced records. This is 'Southern' old 'ardcore stylee, and SLD 'Gettin' Out' on Creed records which is more Northern'ey. Basicly in old skool, south = Breakbeats, rough synth noises and piano - North was a combo of rough synths, piano and tunes with an italian house edge and of couse PIANO in them. hehehe.

I never really noticed the divide at the time - it was all just awesome dance music and I loved it all................

See ya,

Sirius.

No I never thought there was a huge difference, only when the Piano tunes became more prevalent then you could distinguish more between the Hardocre clubs and the House clubs.

Basically, It was all fekkin top...and that is why we love ot soooooooooo.
