No shooms, that does not mean jaz mags or general comics- i mean book books.

I am currently reading The Little Friend by Donna Tartt. Anyone read either of her books? Its really good- but jeez, she is one detailed writer. Its so detailed that you really have to concentrate, its deffo one that you have to give 100% and no mistakin. Sometimes i have read a few pages a little tired say, i have to do it again the next day for fear of missing something major.

The central chara is Harriet, a 12 year old who's brother was killed when she was a baby. She tries to find out who killed him, and wrongly suggests the local amphetamine addict. Its set in Mississippi, i think around 1940? Tartt has a very similar writing style to Harper Lee (deffo having Harper if we have a girl next time), yet much more turbid and difficult.

I do feel like giving up sometimes, but i have never give up on a book yet. I even thought about cheating and just reading the last parra lol, but (along with love bites) i think that kind of behaviour should stay in my teens.

So what book are you reading at the mo?

Edited to add, its also like a 1000 pages long with teeny tiny text! I am going to be here till Christmas!

Doesn't sound like the kind of book for me as I have a fairly short attention span:rotate:

I'm currently reading, nothing:)

p.s I'm not familiar with this one I have to admit. I'd give it a whirl though, I kinda relish the challenge of 'difficult to read' books sometimes

Let us know when you finish it, and what you thought!

Get fucked spaniels-ears :p

I am a voracious reader - always have been since a v young age (I was rather a precocious child - but at least I didn't end up having a sex change like that curly-haired antique freak on Wogan).

Not passing my test until a few years ago meant that I had plenty of time on public transport to devour books - I never left the house without one.

However since trading up for a V6 hairdressers car & a high-flying exec job my spare time to devote to reading has dwindled to virtually nada :(

Lolol i read The Yummy Mummy one a few months back- it was quite a good light-hearted 'bathtime' read actaully!

I am sure you're taking the piss, and perhaps its your better half thats into this kinda stuff- if so tell her to read some of Lisa Jewells stuff, its top drawer chick lit (the best being argghh, i forget the name but its two people- Frank and Julie or something).

LOL - busted..... although I do berate her for only reading CL or Daphne du Maurier - having said that I read em too as I generally finish a book in a couple of days and am looking or something to read - we've got some Lisa Jewells around and Ive definatly seen the ones with the 2 authors - we usually pick these sort of things up for 20p at boot sales

Never seems to be any good male "light" authors in this vein - maybe Nick Hornby .... but I only really liked High Fidelity (books much better than the film)
