I was having this debate with someone else recently, and I stated that this buzz-word was not really around in the 1990's or early 90's at least. I concluded that it was another hot-air genre label, but that's just my opinion.

Can someone confirm the year they first saw this term published in writing either on a record or a magazine or a flyer?

I suspect it came in the early 2000's period, if not mid 2000's.

Progressive Trance is two words:p

Anyway I would suspect v early 90s if not before.

There were plenty of 'Progressive Trance' compilations, mixes etc available commercially by the mid 90s.

Have a search on www.discogs .com

It's funny, it's like one of those buzz words that just emerged. I often wonder if a single person creates these names or they come from the magazines....

I thought about that before, the Discogs thing...only thing is Discogs can't really be used as a source since it didn't exist that long ago. It started in 2000. All those choices for styles are just user opinions that came after 2000.

From what I recall there weren't commerically labeled compilations or mixes in 1995 that used the word. In the end, I guess who cares. Nowadays people are even calling Hip Hop - Trance.

Thanks for the tip. I looked in Discogs and I couldn't find anything your refering to. Basically the reason I'm bringing this up, is, I'm writing an article on the history of rave music, and I want to mention the various buzz-words that emerged from the scene, that describe the music. I've been looking and looking for the source of this term, and I can't seem to find it. Maybe I should just omit it from the article altogether, I don't know.

I'll keep looking for now, but thanks for the tips so far. This site is amazing. So many old schoolers here.
