Which version of Norton do you have, and more important, which Norton product?

If it's 'Norton Security' centre, or some such shit, then it is exactly that - shit.

You want (imo) Norton A/V 2005, with all the latest updates.

If you have Norton A/V 2005 installed, and it hasn't updated all the signatures, might be best to try let it update, then reboot and re-scan.

Never had any probs with viri myself running Norton

Are you fussed about what it on the pc ? if not then you can just do a complete reinstall/reformat over the whole lot and completly start from scratch. You will lose everything on the pc but its better than what you seem to have at the moment. Also make sure you have the windows disc or if its a partition on the HD then restore to factory settings (so its like it was when you first bought it)
If you can manage to backup important files/music to dvd & cd first then even better.

The thing with virus's is they are sneaky - what version of windows do you use? if you want to get rid of a virus it can hide at certain points in your pc and sometimes ppl think that doing a system restore will get rid of them. wrong! - delete the restore points on the pc and THEN do a scan of the pc.
Once the pc is rid of the said nasty - then turn back on system restore.

have you tried Mcafee's site? - you can use their online scanner for helping detect any nasties on the pc -
http://uk.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp FREE SCAN

There is a site i use for pc related stuff and its the xp forum - they will deal with any windows format though.
www.xpforum.co.uk
the peeps on there are friendly and can advise all sorts - personally i would recommend that you run hijack this on your pc and then post it on the xpforum when they ask you for it - they have a secure room for posts of that nature,
NEVER post a hijack this log for the world to see - it can contain info that lets ppl into ur pc - be warned but the MODS on that site can be trusted.

Just a thought...

If you're reformattin & stuff...

You've prolly got a nice big HD, so consider splitting it into partitions.
Can save loads of work in future doing this sort of stuff..
I gots this config (all on 1 hard disk - cept for the CD/DVDs)

C: - 60Gb, Windows & Software
D: - 160Gb, Data/Choons etc
E: - CD/DVD Drive
F: - CD/DVD Burner
G: - 10Gb, Temp files, Web cache, Windows swap file
H: - 10Gb, Image Drive

When you format/reinstall, keep H: as a FAT drive, then snidey a copy of Norton Ghost. You can create an image of yer C drive on H: so that next time it gets bolloxed, you can just rebuild C: again from the image in about 30 minutes. Yer windows & all yer software will be nice & snappy again! If all yer data etc. is on another drive (D:) then you won't lose it when you rebuild.

Ghost fits on a floppy, & if you stick it on a bootable disk, then even if yer PC's bolloxed so it won't even boot up, then you can boot off the floppy & restore the image (on H:) back to C: in 30 mins & it'll all work again (so long as H: is a FAT drive).

Takes a bit of setting up first time you do all this, but saves you bigtime in the long run, as backing up data/reformatting/reinstalling everything takes yonks & is a pain.

You don't necessarily need the G: drive above, but it's my way of stopping Windows running like a dog after a few weeks of use when the disk gets fragged.

Sorry if this is too techy, or is about stuff you already know.
