The lord of trance oakey has confirmed speculation that he's giving up DJing, telling journalists this week 'Yes it's true, I'm playing my last gig on New Year's Eve 2005 and I plan to run for mayor"
The movement 98 legend also issued a press release outlining his new political career, which he said had been directly inspired by his new neighbour & good friend Tony Blair.
"Over the years of playing trance, I have been fortunate in developing a political opinion. Many of my friends vote and the passion and enthusiasm I have for this has made me take the decision to bow out at the top and run for mayor of central London next year," said paul.
"It's very exciting in getting closer to the realisation of another dream of being a nobleman as now is the right time to turn and face the change, and I do so with a combination of fear and excitement as this project takes shape," he admitted.
His new role will include tackling key issues such as poor sound installations in clubs and the role bouncers play in society, paul continued, "My vision is a squad of armed doorman with special training that would stop the haters'.
"It won't be easy but nor was playing before U2 and not being able to mix" he added.
Paul described the decision to retire as 'one of the most difficult decisions of my life' though stressed he remains upbeat about his experiences and the legacy his mullet has left behind.
"The passion and the energy I projected in developing the UK house scene in its infancy was contagious, it spread like wildfire and regardless of what the cynics may have said, it truly was a rebellious force that made a positive statement for change in British youth culture; especially, during the golden years of 88/89 in the second summer of love," he concluded. "Remixing has made me the man i am , some other fool does all the hard work i strip the record of any decent sounds get Grace or some other fledging diva to warble some inane sixth form dross over a two bob backing track and invoice them ."
After inventing acid house culture whilst on holiday with his chums, he then ditched house & came up with the revolutionary concept of Movement 98 which was based upon only playing records of wait for it...98 bpm! That lasted for two singles before paul necked a window pane & gave the world neon tye dye & insipid trance. He is founder member of the religious sect Safe Haven In Trance whom are based in a Waco type fortress on the east side of Connaught Sq. Paul will be releasing a manifesto, followed by a compilation featuring two discs of his own productions and a third 'eclectic Balearic' compilation featuring some of the original balearic cuts he's butchered over the years.
