Any1 been to club one eleven recently? Went on satday night with mi mates. The 1st DJ (I think it was Gaz Carnage) on between 9 -10 was fukkin shit. He played an old Italian house set. His mixing was terrible, beat clashes, missed breaks etc. Me and a mate of mine are good mixers and ave been trying to get on at a club for ages. You go out and hear someone that shit and its fukkin annoyed me. Has any one else heard him or any other dj's like that?

The worst dj I've ever heard, it was that bad. It sounded like elephants chrashin downstairs. He was that bad towards the end of the mix he was closin his eyes and crossin his fingers lol. It wasn't just the beat matching he was missing breaks like he didn't know where they were. There's no excuse for that.

May I just confirm that mixing out loud on a fukkin huge system is indeed scary mary.

If you havent played out much in this manner, and like me, ride the crossfader "Goofy" it really can be a nightmare.

If the guys been going a few years playing out, then yeah, he should have a grasp by now.

I played out (small event) once when I was 19, for the first time. Jeesus its a scary thing and once you start to 'Sledge' you can lose the plot very easily. I could mix to a T in my room........

There used to be a club here in Scarborough called KINGS. It had the worst DJ I have ever heard. I'm really not kidding.
He used to be playing one record, and apparently be listening to something on his headphones, whilst attempting to match the beat of the next record.
Then when the 1st one would get near the end, he would randomly start the next one. I mean, it wouldn't even start on the beat. Then he'd leave both faders up for about a minute and make no attempt whatsoever to sort it out.
Now, the thing with oldskool stuff is that a lot of it tends to be quite short, so you can forgive the odd bad mix, but that nob from KINGS was playing shitty comercial trance, so he probably had on average about 7mins to cue up his next record. God knows how he got the job there.

Hmm

To speak up for Gaz...hes a self admitted learner at older styles of music and has taught himself on Trance and hard House which is great with a minute of beats either side of the tune rofl

The earlier stuff as you all know changes more than the style of dance music now

Tune/vocals/rap etc not just tune err tune err no beat err build up err tune err tune rofl

Hes a good mixer at the modern stuff and is wanting a shot at the older style....he might have have failed this time but hey ..learnings learning

Lets see if see excels himselfs as he improves..anyone wanting/willing to play/DJ the old skool tunes deserves support not insults i reckon

should he be learning in the club though.surely it would be better for him to learn on his own decks first.

i know what you mean about the different styles of tunes and mixing ,i find it alot easier to mix new stuff with all there intros and breakdowns.

no matter how much ya learn i dont think n e think can set u up for ur first playin at a club experience altho even so bits out here n there im on about not elephant running downstairs tackle but its all about confidence n if u lose ur head big time i can see how he may have lost it n shit went pear, i mean he must have been able to mix to get put on in the first place surely. when 1 mix goes pear then its a artform in itself sortin ya head out after that, the only way to get better is by playing out more. it took me a good few months of playing each friday n saturday to a crowd to even begin to get my head round this. i do agree with zr tho its easy enuf for people to critisice a dj but at the end of the day they aint the ones behind the decks and they should be working at finding a way of getting behind them rather than critisicing others.

just my opinion n e ways

zoneraver says he can dj but just started old skool.so i think he should learn out of the club.

the thread is called pised off so im guessing it spoilit andis night.and if other people felt the same they would end up with no one in the club to mix to.

I've only played in a club twice, and despite the nerves I actually found it easier than at home. Maybe I got lucky and that club had particularly good acoustics, but I've nothing else to compare it to. I think it's just a case of it being super loud and being able to hear everything clearly that made it easier. Having said that thoug, my hands were shaking like fuk! :p

It's all the echos and reverb you get in big rooms that can make it hard to mix in clubs. I've only done it twice myself and I'm always bricking it:cry:
