ps3 question

having just put some photos onto the ps3 ive decided to turn it into my media player gonna slap a 320 gig hardrive into it and store all my photos and music on it, but is it not possible to rip dvds to the hard drive ? im by no neans a techy person but when i pop a music cd in it gives me the option to copy to the hard drive, but i dont get the same option with dvds, it would be nice to be able to pop all my favourite dvds onto the drive especially my music ones, is it to do with the format or is it copyright cant understand if its copyright why i can rip music discs (either cd or dvd mp3 disc) but not dvd films. but after seeing how it upscales photos i think its time to turn it into a jukebox too.

if you have wireless you can transfer any file from your pc to ps3 using nero media home, i transfer all my films this way,open nero then goto nero media, select file you want to share, start server, then goto films on ur ps3 and search for media server, click on nero media home and find the file you want press triangle and you can copy file to ps3 hd or watch the file as it streams from your pc, you'll need nero 7 ultra or l8r to get nero media, you can watch high def films, hope this helps as it saves using up your dvds

Will the PS3 not just play the .vob files if you ripped them straight off the DVD? I'll try later and find out
