Not Manchester
I haven't been to a record shop for years and years...I have been to HMV to get cd etc..but didn't realize record shops still exist as they used to..I get everything from Discogs..not even bothering to use ebay..Discogs has never let me down..would rather discover than trawl and speculate nowadays.

Theres this place in Accrington. Only been once and didnt have long to rummage but theres plenty to go at, could happily spend a few hours in there as its disorganised chaos which lets face it, is all part of the fun for most I think :) Its quite a trippy little place to explore too :)

tap end of the bath
mostly 2nd hand shops and chazzas. use mail order shops like juno/phonica/piccadilly now and again. there are 2 independent shops within my local area that i support if i can, but only if i want rock/pop music. rarely use discogs or ebay. however, i have sold loads on discogs in the past and need to get selling again.

Jumbo Records in the Merrion Centre at Leeds is still on the go. I haven't been in there in a loooong time though, although I have been past it. I used to go there every Monday religiously for vinyl, pulling out whites and promos and asking to listen to them (guys in the shop were always accommodating if you were genuinely looking to buy). Spent tons of my wages in that shop back in the day. TBH I think Jumbo is the only place I've seen in years selling records, can't think of anywhere in Sheffield where I shop more often.

Nowadays I mainly shop online direct from the labels (for new stuff). I buy very little second hand as I've generally been disappointed with quality. I do buy CDs and tapes second hand as they generally either play or they don't, as opposed to optimistically graded vinyl.

In short, most music shop owners are clued up on the value of their stock, thanks to Discogs/ebay, so there's mainly tons of shit to sift through in the bargain bins in most shops. Those days of having the edge on the owner because they mainly specialise in other genres seems mostly gone in the shops I use. Even charity shops got clued up and pushed the prices up for the better tunes. Discogs then is the best bet for most people, but if crate diggin's in your blood then you can't resist the urge to have a delve at ever opportunity.

I still can't pass a record shop/charity shop if i'm on my own to see if there's any decent vinyl inside, but the chance of me finding something special is a lot rarer these days.

For stuff I really need though it's mainly Discogs for me these days, but i still check out ebay from time to time if I think a record's priced too dear on oggs, then usually find it's a lot dearer there (on ebay). Beware of buying from American sellers on oggs and ebay now though as I recently got screwed over by Parcelforce when they added a £13 processing fee on my order (plus other import charges) because they handled the parcel this side of the Atlantic.

I occasionally use Juno and other online shops for stuff if it's a new release too.

MVE in Notting Hill can throw up some good finds if you have the patience and decent knowledge of music and Vinyl Exchange used to be similar, but i haven't been there for a year or 2, so things might be different now. Generally speaking though, most of the cheesey old school music that charted on a big label can be picked up dirt cheap in the bins of MVE.

Cheers for the tips in Huddersfield  Last time I looked there all I could find was slim pickings in the charity shops.

Tunbridge Wells has a great music shop, 90% vinyl and 100% house (of all genres) with a great owner who knows his stuff but is also realistically priced and always open to an offer. Yes they are on OGs but who isnt these days. Have circa 30,000 records in and are Soundwaves & Harris Huskey on OGs

With charity shops, you need to know how they work, some like Oxfam have specific shops for pushing out specialist items, their music outlet used to be Tonbridge meaning I could pick up a few bargains however that has now moved on and I dont know where it is now. Tunbridge Wells now has the Oxfam bookshop.......
