Sry folks, this is going to sound like a very basic request, but I am seriously pissed at the moment followin a week of laptop shenanigans which involved restoring the laptop to factory settings on the back of a corrupt disc/kernal! After eventually reinstalling everything, I have attempted to record a mix and all I get are pops and the pc is on the verge of going thru the f@cking window! Any ideas? I have tried upping the gain and fade controls on the mixer and also adjusting the input mic on the soundcard. The card ain't goosed cos I am listening to butty in the mix on osa radio as I type this! Please help me. I have just got the FPI project megamix and want to unleash it on my neighbours!

Are they occassional or all the time? how long is the mix?
You want the 'line in', not the 'mic' for starters.
Try recording at different input volumes and see what the audio looks like, if the waveform is flat then its too loud.
Spiky is good.
The soundcard may be poor quality, in which case record it to tape or minidisc, see if the spikes are still there, if there are not then its the pc processor having trouble on converting the mix.

To quote Jaws....... Gonna need a bigger boat....
