personally I use musicmatch for all my ripping...does everything on the fly and has pretty good controls over input source and output bitrate etc....you can prob find a ahem cough "freeware" version of it from kazaa or somet similar or get it from

and get the crack from one of these

obviously if you like the program, you should go out and buy it after fully testing it:drevil:

Make sure you've got your tape player plugged into the Line In socket on your soundcard and not the Mic socket cos this will sound terrible.

Also, you may have your levels set too high which may make the sound distorted... Either turn the volume / output on your tape deck down or turn the recording levels down on the PC (go into the volume control, select recording properties and turn the Line In Level down). Hope this makes sense ??! :axe:
