Hi, the village idiot again, lol.

I recently reformatted my works computer's hard disk and split it into 4 parts:

c: fat32 for windows 98se
d: Ntfs for WinXP Pro Sp1
e: fat32 for files
f: fat32 for files.

Windows 98 doesnt see the winXP drive whilst in windows 98se mode, Im okay with that cos any files I need will be on another partition thats fat32 anyway, and I can see the win98 partition from XP.

Everytime I start my computer, it warns me that the E partition needs to be checked for consistancy and performs a scan disk - every single time! :(.

Ive tried to reformat the disk in fat32 from windows98 and it completes perfectly yet still shows this error on boot up, and Ive tried to format it fat32 from XP and its still the same.

Why is it doing this, and what can I do to sort it out once and for all?

Thanks

Sirius.

Yeah. It just does it everytime anyway on the same empty partition. Theres no files on it, its just freshly done on monday.

It wont let me format it within windows XP actually, I thought I had, but it doesnt let me have exclusive access to the partition for some strange reason.

Ive found some code to try and run to disable the scandisk for that partition - but I dont like doing that, as thats not the solution - if theres something wrong Id rather fix it, not stick a plaster over what could be a broken leg.

Cheers

Aye...while you have no files on it might be worth starting afresh. And is it not better to have them all formatted the same (NTFS or FAT32)?

Wish I knew more to help you - I have 2 drives with one running XP but I reformatted them both to NTFS.

Can you reinstall just scandisk (maybe corrupted on install)

Other than than - dunno m8.
