lol - thought it was time for a poll coz I am bored lol

Scratchin - how do you stand on it ? Personally I love listening to scratchin but I guess you can overkill it - sometimes i detracts from the tunes....

I also love scratchin mesen but am more of a 'baby scratch' person - aint got no flange or flare technics to speak of :$ :axe:

I am (lol I am, I am , I am I swear) gonna get round to doing a set prolly this w/e & would be interested in seeing what peeps want - to scratch or not to scratch that is the question:

If you were listening to a set would you:

Like scratching (or attempts) but only in moderation
Love scratching (but only if I was Q Bert)
Hate scratching (leav it out bruv)

Cheers :D

Love scratching but if done properly! Totally agree you can kill a mix with too much going on as it can spoil the tune but can be very effective when done with a bit of thought ;)

Heard Sasha once scratch Dirty Mind - Killer into oblivion and sounded amazing :|

One thing I'm jealous of is peeps who can scratch......I can't even scratch my arse properly

Look forward to hearing the mix by the way - will eventually put one up as well :$

Voted for a wee bit scratchin'

Leave it out bruv.

Used to love scratching. But the true skill of decks has got to be in the mixing. Also its now something like 27 nicker for a stanton needle. Which is a bit of a detterent.
Still i've notning against someone scratching on there own setup if they feel the need.:phones:

Voted fer just a bit

Gets on mi teets a bit when a DJ is simply scratching all the time to show off a bit..

Then again flawless mixing on identical bpm tunes bores the shite outta me, so what im saying is I like a balance..

Listen to me.... like Ive been to a club in last 3 years...:$

Look forward to hearin the set shooms:thumbsup:

If you choose the right tune scratching can really make a mix, certainly adds something, as opposed to just choosing a lot of tunes with very similar basslines, beats and in almost the same key.

However, if you choose the wrong track to have a go with it can be really terrifying just how bad it can be. I once heard someone scratch the intro to Better Days, which in theory you would think would be not too bad but as they were doing it over Bombscare just stopped people in their tracks :naughty::eek:

Any old muppet can beatmix though !!!!

2 true this fella, what makes us scratchers different 2 other jocks is that we have put the time in lurnin how 2 scratch,i persanally have spent a lot of my time on turntables constantly perfecting my scratchin skill's,with me, the scratchin comes first cos at the end of the day i will allways be able 2 mix, like thay say once u lurn how 2 mix it's like rydin a bike you will never forget, you'll only get rusty:cool: all i can say to some 1 who want's to lurn them selfs how 2 scratch is get ya self a life time supply of spare needles & box full of replacement faders:D

p.s.DJ Sy will allways be the number 1 scratch master:cool:

For me, scratching should only be done if done right.

Just cause you have a nice vocal stab doesn't mean you have to scratch it !!! imho, 2 many DJ's baby scratch thinking they can scratch and ruin a good tune. Sometimes the simple scratch's work well and fill gaps but sometimes it just becomes 2 much. Also, the converse is true, technically good scratching can sound shite and is for bedroom or competitions only.

As long as it doesn't turn into a DJ masturbating on the decks and its done in moderation then its fine by me :)

For me, scratching is a good way to refine and improve the mix allowing a vocal to come in fine style. The best example of this for me is Sasha @ the G Spot mixing "Bump - I'm rushing" into "Gat Decor - Passion". Wasn't over kill but made the mix for me :)

Another good example was DJ Sy scratchin' his little heart out with "Awesome 3 - Dont Go" over SL2's "Bassquake".

Although I think Sy is good I also think sometimes he can over do it and ruin it... but not that much thank god.

No.1 Scratch God = QBert :)

But how many can do it well on a 80 min Cd with no fuck ups not as many fella I can tell ya.:D

I know what you're saying but if you look at what the guys at the DMC championships do, it's in a whole different league, it's so complex it's like playing a musical instrument and takes years of dedicated practice to learn... whereas basic beat mixing can be pulled off a lot more easily, look at some of the talentless people that have got away with it over the years... Don't get me wrong, excessive scratching in a club set can ruin things very easily but the ability to scratch just gives some DJs the edge. It sounds better with different types of music as well (e.g. scratching sits more easily in a hardcore set than a house set).
