Hello fellow OSA,

I am a keen dance music enthusiast as we all are, taking the time to find tapes/mixes/cds etc then going to the time of ripping/burning and then uploading/sharing with info/tracklistings etc.

Only to find some fucker has downloaded and put on web-site available to download at a price??? Really??? WTF!

I am all for sharing and giving back to the dance scene we all know love and appreciate!

However came across this site all the w's.*********.co.uk and they are selling the BOXED series, Regression series & X2 series.
I think we will all agree there is no need to do this and it is unethical especially as there are other ways to make revenue's from the site ie advertising.
I found this out as I also contribute to a face book group - LOVE GROOVE DANCE PARTY PEOPLE! Please check it out and I hope no mixes you have upped and shared for FREE are up on this site for a price!

Respect James Colbourne

Its part the reason I have not posted any of my 2000+ mix tapes (I mean tapes too). The other main reason is that I cant be bothered to sort the out.

From **********.co.uk

Are these mixes legal?

"Yes, they have never been sold so they are not copied. They are freely available in the public domain if you can find them! The club where the individual records were played will have paid all the necessary fees. We are not selling records. Our discs break no copyright laws"

I'd love to see you argue that in court. You can't sell recordings of music that you don't own or have not licensed from the copyright holder.

I'd even go so far as to say that the mix in itself could be classed as a "work of art" by the DJ, and by selling them without permission (which I assume you are) you'd be breaking more laws than you already are.

Also if the mixes are already "freely available in the public domain", why not just have a site with links to mixes instead of ripping people off?

Actually no mixes are legal unless you have got the permission of each and every artist on the mix to use them and allow people to download them. Even mixes posted here.

A clubs broadcasting licence would only cover public broadcasting at the club not recording and distributing.

would that include mixes of nights that have been given to me direct from the owners of a club that have not been shared out before? :hubba:

Yes because the club owner only holds a public broadcasting licence. hey don't have a licence to record and distribute

Just a couple of points.
James posted this thread here and a load of other places because I posted a link to my site on the lgdp facebook page and he started ranting about sharing for free so I posted a list of the mixes I know he has and that he keeps to himself. He then proceeded to lose the plot.He wrote "Only to find some fucker" he knew my name was Tony then but chose not use it,would have made it all a bit easier for those detectives amongst you :)

Sites that sell mixes nicked etc....

We have never stolen any mixes ,never been lucky enough to find a bag of them under a tree.We have bought ,traded and downloaded from the internet every mix we have

We are not selling the mixes they are not ours to sell ,if you go to the site and add a mix and go to the cart you will see £0.00 beside each mix.We are charging for our time to create and post the disc anywhere in the world.

The FAQ's and a fe other bits and bobs were only hastily made up as the people we were paying to do the code needed an amount of words so they could finish this part of the design. My wife did most of it and a lot has to change :)

As for hosting the mixes ,we do if we make any money from this venture at all hope to buy a server and put the mixes up on that ,the first company that popped up in google search was rackspace and thats from £670 a month for two 300gb drives, everything after that is mail us for a quote .We are currently looking at around 3TB of mixes or more.

The only bearing I can see our site having for anyone on the forums etc. is hopefully reference.Check out Michael Kilkie Michael Kilkie .We added the samples today ,all mixes have the bitrate, length and size underneath them128kbps - 00:45:18 43Mb - 44.1 kHz
The samples are all taken from 16 minutes to 16 minutes 30 so hopefully you can go and A. see if its the mix your looking for or B. the same mix as you have but longer/shorter/higher bitrate etc.If its better than ours we would love to trade and everyone wins.

We are mainly aiming our site at people who dont use the forums etc as we all do.They have the right to come on the net and pick a bunch of mixes and that be the end of it.There is no rule that says you have to participate in it all.We will be sharing our mixes through the forums/torrents ect but in fairness its going to be a couple of months before we can do that as I have limited spare time and the site is taking that all at the moment.Saying this Im currently putting some up on mediafire for someone

We have spent an awful lot of money on our site (2 grand in the last month alone),we hope to be able to do an update and finish it off in a couple of months time ,this will probably cost at least another grand. We have to upgrade our hosting to about 15gb as we need mp3 and ogg samples so all browsers can support the samples so thats going to be another cost.We have the site monthly hosting, postage (worldwide !!) ,paypal ,blank dvds which we print ,sleeves, envelopes, paypal fees, back up system ,sundries and our time to write the discs prepare them and drive to the post office amongst others.
I have a hard job "too fucking hard" :) and I wont be giving it up for a long time yet,not from this anyway.

We have talked to the Performing rights people amongst others about having a licence ,they can sort us one out for playing mixes through the site but as for anything else they would be at a loss. They said it would be a nightmare to even try and find who has the rights for each track on mix as most of the artists never held them, the small record labels were gobbled up by bigger ones and so on.

One last point .I have a 50 mile plus drive each way to work each day and one of the joys I have is listening to music in the car , I was listening to Boy George at Moneypennies on Friday and that is not a piece of art not by a long way :) Think it will have to be Hernan again monday

So the mixes are free? I clicked on one and it said £14.99

Have I got this right then, you're not charging for the mixes, but you're charging £14.99 for a disc which contains the "free" mixes?

Isn't that a bit like saying, "No Officer, I wasn't selling drugs. I just sold an empty plastic bag and put a few free pills in it." :cops:

Rip off merchants and I'm sure if the DJs listed on there objected to their mixes being sold without their permission/license agreement you'd have a cease and desist letter before you could blink shutting the site down and facing a hefty fine.

This question from the FAQs goes to show they even charge you to ID a track!

I can remember a billiant tune from back in the days - I just don't know the name of it. Can you help?

Yes probably, but we charge if we get it right! Email us and we'll tell you what to do next.

Shady madheads :cops:

Presumably after after posting up on here or tuneID.com & getting the ID for nish from people who are sharing their passion & knowledge for free .

Loving this too.

You've got one of my mixes on your site, can I have a copy of it?

Email us and we'll talk. That includes you Danny...

If I was Butty I'd lock down the mix section on here to save it from sharking opportunistic twunts looking to make a fast buck.
