slsk again lol?

im running on a 1 meg line.........but slsk seems to be running very slow....how can i optimise the speed? if at all!!

Bearing in mind my pc is rammed to full with little space left

but surly if sum1 is havin sumthing from my files and they have a 2 meg line........im almost certain it should be running faster than say 10kbps

What speed's your line?
Do you have a firewall? Have you got the ports open?
Is your speed OK otherwise?

really depends as well on who ur downloading from - ive been downloading films so anyone that has been downloading from me is getting piss poor speed :| :|

People set the speed that you download files from them

so if some has a max speed of 50k you can get upto a download speed of 50k, also it depends on how many other people are downloading from that user

its crap

the net that soulseek creates is generally very inefficient - what do you expect from a free bit of software

even if I have my soul client set to max up/down and the reciprocal user also has settings ramped, best transfer rate I've had is about 120kbps

add to that hidden pipe-throttling (don't get excited Cutter) by your ISP and general net traffic, you've got a slow transfer :S

Plus SoulSeek is a resource hungry bugger, as someone said, depends on the other persons speed, what that person is downlaoding aswell, or if the other person is doing other stuff and has SS running in the background.

As Murfso said, she was downloading films, I got one tune from her the other night, took 2 hours, was only about 4 mb aswell, or she was just being a tight arse

if someone is downloading off you on a 2mb line 10kb/sec aint that bad

the max upload you will be able to give out will be 30kb/sec (at best) so if theres more than one person getting something its going to be slower, plus if your browsing the net, got torretns going itll slow things further

Its only recently really that the thing has been running slow.... been ok before now :|

The person who was downloading a file from me was on a 2 meg line...so i was expecting to hit at least 20 kbps....... :S

Tim i remeber getting sumthing off u a while back....it flew thorugh it at 35 ish kbps...nothing has changed really

Our fire wall is turned off like norton that got turned off too....slows us up too much

if its ntl or blueyonder that 1mb line will only have maximum of 15kb/sec upload anyways

Er, turned off completely? All the time?

If so may I be so bold as to suggest you turn the bleedin' thing on again. They do slow down soulseek, bittorrent etc but you just need to open the appropriate ports. Leaving yourself with no firewall on a broadband connection is asking for trouble really, your whole machine will end up slower.

Have you run an adaware or spybot since you turned the firewalls off?
