Just to let you know that, having finally got around to upgrading my SoundCloud account, I'm going to start uploading a whole heap of edits and remixes, in addition to the DJ mixes I regularly add.

This will be ongoing (a lot of stuff to get up there) and include downloads available to all, but also downloads that are only privately shared with those who have accounts of their own and have clicked on the 'start following' option on my page. These will include edits from my personal stash, the first of which I'll upload in the next day or so.

Here's the addy:
gregwilson's sounds on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

I'll keep you posted on what's going up there.

Kiss me brown eye
Greg... Could i pick your brains?
Or any other DJ for that matter..

Just been asked by a fan of AOR who was listening to one of my mixes
" Is the 'heartbeat' bass drum intentional in these tunes?"

I couldn't honestly answer but i told him i suspect yes

I suppose the 4/4 repetitive beats of Electronic Dance Music music is what emulates the Shamanic tribal drums of old? The skilful DJ using these beats, drops, timing and key changes to provoke a mass emotional response in a crowd
Certainly got me thinking... Anything you could add?

Sorry for the hijack :$

It became that way following the Rave explosion of the late 80's / early 90's. Before that you'd hear a variety of dance music within the same night, spanning downbeat to uptempo and taking in all sorts of moods and grooves.

I personally don't like it when everything goes the same way, I prefer to draw from a wider spectrum. I've no problem with straight 4/4, but not all the time.

First of three mixes from Vintage now available to download:

SOUL CASINO @ VINTAGE SOUTHBANK 29.07.11 (greg wilson live selection) by gregwilson on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Something a bit different, not a mix in the normal sense, but a no-frills selection of soulful singles spanning a seven year period (1969–1976) and played during my lunchtime Soul Casino spot at Vintage in the Royal Festival Hall on London’s Southbank 29.07.11.

Further Vintage mixes, from the Style Studio and Warehouse, to follow in the next week.

Greg,

I've spent a very enjoyable evening thus far listening to all your edits and mixes and have to say that the essential mix is one of the best things I have ever listened to. phones:

Would it be at all possible to grab a .wav of it off you for playing on my main (serious) stereo?

Brock

Hi Brock - email me with your postal address and I'll send to you.
