Hi mate

The Blue Strictly Rhythm label was introduced to move away from the more `underground` sound that the label was mostly known for. The traditional colour being brick reddish.

I used to, sort of, know the founder Mark Finklestein (who sadly later lost control of the copyright) when we organised a Strictly Rhythm UK tour with Martin Lever. He was our contact in New York He was a nice guy to speak to.

The set featured DJ Moneypenny, Roger Sanchez (his first ever UK gig) and featured Todd Terry on keyboards and another DJ that I cannot recall. They did 3 nights in the UK, this would be early 1991. One at Eureka in Blackpool (at the infamous Jenks Bar), one in Scotland and another I, again, cannot recall.

More info about the label and a discography is on oggs:

Although the pics in this You Tube video don't show it, this was also on Strictly Blue... My favourite Strictly Blue too. Love it. Samples 'Always There', with lush vocals. A big favourite with Graeme Park...

I'm still waiting to find my first breakbeat tune on this label and they do exist because Northern Star and tag have both played them.

Buggered if I can find them though, so if anyone can point me in the right direction....

Label did some fine songs as well as some amazing underground tunes.

This sound sort of went out of fashion a few years back, seems to be making a bit of a comeback.

From Youtube.

Two Notches was a massive Jenks/ Zone tune. Got most of their early stuff on Test Pressing.

One of my personal faves:

 I hear ya mate. I've always had my fingers burnt on this label with the watered down weak assed crap that i'd buy after some DJ bigged it up in Mixmag Update. I'm glad I listen to everything before buying over the £2 mark these days though ;)

That is a gem anyway Scott, cheers mate  Not sure how it's escaped being on my wantslist though as i've got it on mp3 and played it through the cans once or twice recently :$

Great label and always worth looking our the test pressings on DMM (Digital Metal Mastering). I absolutely love Nice Psycho, Tonite (Tonite Mix) which is a great 3am track.
