This is a current music situation of mine:

I have a bedroom which is approx. 6.5 foot x 12.5". In this fits my bed, wardrobe jobby etc, 2 keyboards, decks, mixer,video,tv,speakers,computer/monitor,hi-fi, amp, mixer for keyboards/pc,tape machine, approx 4000(!!!) records or more and boxes of tapes holding somewhere in the region of 700 tapes!!!!!...................its like a tardis in here, the position of everything is honed to perfection to fit everything in...

I neither want to, nor can afford to, move out. But the thing is - what the hell am I going to do with all this stuff????. I reckon I could bare to part with about 100 records which are absolute crud if I went through my whole collection, the others I just couldnt part with no matter what.

As for the tapes, I reckon about 200 are radio1 essential mixes which I would want to keep, 150 are 'proper' tapes(zone/back in time/grooverider/gallery etc) which I would want to keep and the rest is cut up stuff recorded off different radio stations between 1993 and around 1997 (I have stopped since then, par essential mix). ie Kiss102/key103/rockfm/radio1/Splash/etc.

What would you do with all these tapes which really need sorting out into good and bad tracks?. The task of sorting them all out is weighing on my mind, but I dont know if I could just throw them all away or sell them as they are. I just wont be able to move if I carry on with them unsorted.........

Im toying with the idea of putting the unmixed stuff on the PC somehow and mp3ing the whole lot down onto CD, but its gonna take one hell of an effort and a whole lot of time!!!. Imagine, 350+ tapes fastforwarded though and recording the best bits on the pc - I dont know how many hours worth of music this is but it just bends the mind at the amount of time it would take...nevermind harddisk space. I have started slowly on my record collection for backup purposes and have a 40gb hard drive, of which 75% of it is filled up with a necessary dual boot 'Me' and Win2k and loads of applications though.

So,Without laffing, tell me, what would you do with it all?? and no - Im not selling all mi classic vinyl before you ask! :). If you ever watched that 'Life Laundry' on TV, you'll know where Im coming from.......

Cheerio,

Sirius.

I reckon you should put the effort in & put em on the PC & back up on CD (is case you crash & reck the pc) - at the end of the day, yo'uve spent years building up your collection & if you just sell them all then you'll regret it forever cos you'll not be able to listen to them all again.

Alternatively you could rope in the help of some kind soul off here who might be willing to put in a few hours 'in the name of the cause' n all that. I'd offer myself except I aint got the right equipment (oo-er).

alternatively, do you have any loft space your folks might let you utilise??
