Pink makes the boys wink....
Trying to do my tax return online, Fucking nightmare!! I worked for 7 different subbys due to the state on the building trade last year and now i cant for the life of me find out where I was or what I was doing as 2 of the companys have gone tits up? I have about half of the information I need and the rest is anyones guess :(

I have spoken to the tax and they say they cant give me the info, Why? Its money I have put in I should have a right to know! I have also spoken to the subbys in question and both of them say all their paperwork is with liquidators (load of bollocks)

Anyone ever been in this position? Or can anyone hack the H M Revenue & Customs files :p

Ben :)

I feel for you Benny mate.. it must be a nightmare. I cant even get through to HMRC at the moment - the message is just telling me theyre very busy and tocall back later. Has been like that for the last 2 days. Have you got a contact on the inside?

Just thinkin.. Do they even ask how much tax you've paid when you do it online, or do you just whack in how much you earnt and then your expences.. I'll find out soon i suppose.

If I can remember rightly, they ask about tax and earnings (just the total) from the year before...and any taxed earnings you have already made this year too...they don't add it in with your untaxed earnings (i don't think).

it's bollocks, the ad (tax doesn't have to be taxing) should have them hung, it fucking is (I feel a 'false advertising' claim coming on - the website is shite, and the whole set up is wank. are you doing it all yourself? I did mine a couple of years ago...wasn't too complicated, although all the paper work was my own, and I didn't have to rely on anyone else for info.

Yeah Loz.. It'd be a doddle if i had all the paperwork.. I should be able to work out how much tax i've put in by looking at the figures on my statements but it would be easier if they'd just spill it over the phone..... Bastards :p

Cheers :)

The amount of security questions they asked was ridiculous!

On Cloud 9!!!
you could try asking for a subject access request, i used to work for data protection for the department of work and pensions and legally they have to provide u with every piece of info they hold on you both electronically and clerically including small system prints, there might be a small charge i think no more than a tenner unless its gone up! the info might help i dunno ?

deffo need what tax you paid as if you put in earning and expenses online it works out your tax and then you need to enter "taxed at source"

if you was a sub-contractor then did you make CIS payments ? if so you could try contacting the CIS and they will tell you the tax paid to date.

I work for a firm of accountants and at the moment no one can get through to HMCE or Inl Rev. for some reason it keeps saying busy call back later with no chance of even queing in the system. This is a total joke as some of the questions have close deadlines and penalties will be issued even though you dont get through to them to explain.

If you did pay CIS then maybe look at your receipts / bankings and just gross up by 20% and this will be the tax paid to enter

hope this helps

Ah that's a bummer, benny. You don't sound very organised mate so an accountant could be a godsend to you.

It's a good idea to keep a record of where you've been if you don't get printouts and maybe even setting an alarm on your phone to remind you to keep the records in a book.

It sounds like a tricky situation anyway mate. I hope you get it sorted.
