Format the drive first, then put XP Pro on.

If you change the startup options in BIOS, making the CD-Rom or CD/R DVD/R etc to be first in the list, then stick the XP CD in, it'll just auto detect and install.

hello.
what u need to do is....
enter bios by either pressing delete key or f1.
goto advanced settings
change your first boot device to cdrom
exit saving changes to bios
when the pc begins to boot the xp disk itll ask you to press any key to continue setup. do so.
when xp has loaded all its boot drivers and setup files you need to select the option that lets you do a xp install
whenyou select this it willask you if you want to place the install on the currant partition or format and make a clean copy or delete the existing partion and startt afresh, do this by pressing D,
then it will ask you to confirm that you want to delete the partition do so by pressing L
once this is done press enter to install xp
just follow the instructions there on in.
you have any problems just email me.
i am a pc technician so i know my shit.
good luck
